The Orca - Implemented early, still useless - When do we get passenger missions?

Because it give those ships some sort of competitive advantage over any other ship with a 20+ cargo hold - some sort of reason to EXIST. You want more cash for hauling people instead of fish? Then you have to buy the personnel-based ships. You can't just cram people into the hold of your T6.

You know, add some variety to ship roles in ED. Something the game severely needs.

did you even read the post? he's proposing you could take various types of passengers. VIPs for example would be safer on a better armed or faster ship (hell read the description of the imperial courier and clipper, they are ships meant for VIPs).

besides I already cram indentured servants into my T9. There are few differences between them and passengers :D

Right now, the Orca is just a massive waste of space :(

While i am looking forward to passenger missions, i have to disagree with this. Its a nice ship in many ways.

1) Its a good mining ship as it has plenty of internal slots (even though the first two are locked, but anyway, you do need cargo slots).

2) Its got a rock solid hull... makes a good shieldless combat ship.

3) Its Yaw is one of the best of any ships, with maxed thrusters its nice to fly.

4) Its top speed is one of the best in game, good for runnning. Makes it a decent (if expensive) trading ship.

5) The "fasten your seatbelt" ping you get when boosting never gets old. :D

Am I the only one worried that if/when this is imemented it's basically gonna be cargo transport missions only you need a differant kind of cargo rack? Not much hope for these.

Wait, the Orca still locks you into using two downsized Cargo bays, costing you 48t of cargo space for no reason?

And you're defending that? At 50 million you can have a mining clipper with three times the cargo space.

I still wonder why anyone would want to be a bus driver for the galaxy?

I also wonder why people like grinding trade routes in the bubble for credits, so maybe I'm just weird.

Not defending the decision to lock them down, i wish they would unlock them. I even raised it as a bug report. What i was saying is you need cargo space anyway if you are mining or trading, so might as well use the locked slots for it.

And sure, you can have a mining clipper with more cargo, i wasn't comparing different ships, was just saying it decent for it if you wanted to do it. Wasn't trying to get into a urinating competition comparing different ships.

To think that a lot of the early people were expecting this to make an appearance in the gamma... But here we are in mid 2015.

Passenger cabin modules were recently added in among out game files even if they aren't enabled in-game yet:

So they shouldn't be to far off...NPC comms and more detailed NPC interactions are required for passengers (and other NPC features) though for them to really add something to the game other being just another commodity. That is probably what is taking time to implement. If they only intend to add them in as "commodities" then they would already be in there IMO in the same way slaves are.

Update! Thanks to FD... erm, i mean the Emperor's recent recovery, bask in his glory etc, this *cough* loyal empire citizen can now get a Clipper, and indeed has done so. Of course, the Empire can now go bite my shiny metal *cough* and ill by flying the ship for the Alliance! Those fools! Muhawahaha.
