The Orca Is The Best Spaceship For Exploration !

(IMHO...)

It's the best in both looks and durability. Been out for days, and my Orca had hardly a scratch on the windscreen !

The evidence is in my special selection of pictures taken from the most recent exploration mission.

1. "I Believe My Head is Straight", 2. "Looks Like An Atom"

3. "Orca Sunbaking", 4. "Star Struck"

5. "The Orca Jumped Over The Planet", 6. "Toasted Food"

with my chosen loadout of dual heatsinks and dual FMU's I can only get it up to 18.91.
I love the look and feel of it but I need that jump range :(

With my more than 2+ heatsinks, and 2 FMU's, I can average around 17LY (Fully Loaded) if this helps. For me, it's all about reliability and durability which the Orca certainly does ticks those boxes.

I'll stick with my Asp's 31ly jump range. >__> I do love the Orca aesthetically though.

Yeah until something comes out with better jump range (come on diamondback or courier), I'm with you Kat. Maybe when they let multiple people on one ship we can all load up in an orca and do a party cruise to Sgr A*?

Thanks for your reply. I accept that Asp may have a larger jump range. I do very much enjoy having a huge windscreen to watch those spectacular star views though. :)

Edit: When I say "Best", it does not necessarily mean "The Longest Jump Range".

A top line Orca without shields will get you just over 19LY best case. Oddly enough after the powerplant the heaviest thing is the class 6 life support!
In any case it has an undersized FSD (class 5) which doesn't help but a decent one of these will set you back a minimum of 55mil

It does, however, look great :)

Thanks for the stats using the "E: D Shipyard". I had thought that you can put in a lower than class 6 Life Support??? But I may be wrong on that assumption.

I suppose that people travelling in imperial class spaceship wants to fly in comfort ;)

I'm pretty sure each ship can only carry the life support class meant for its chassis size (6 in the case of the orca), if I could downgrade my life support I would, no point in it giving me 30 seconds or even 30 hours if I'm six days from a station.

My passengers probably won't want to live in an environment lower than class 6! LOL...

That jump range will kill you if you are planning to go off the beaten track. I sit with an empty nav panel most jumps these days and that's with a 38LY range.

Dual heatsinks weigh 1t and AFMUs zero. So your range was not really pulled down with them.

I recently took an orca exploring, my logic was if I were to be out for a long trip I might as well be super comfortable. I even took a hold with some rare goods like Lavian brandy, luxury foods and some nice looking slaves (well the nights get lonely when exploring).
The ships boost speed is just what was required to escape the odd pirate but the jump range made the trip back very long, especially as I also went prospecting and return with a full cargo hold of metals and the luxury goods and slaves. I like to think I freed the slaves on my return

Great use of your ship!
