The Orca

I have never seen this ship for sale yet - I also never see screenshots or anything for it. Is it a flyable ship? If so, why does nobody use it?

It's for sale. It is just not popular AT ALL. Presumably some niche that has not yet been addressed in this half finished game (oh, I said it...oops).

Yes it is meant for passenger transport, something that has not yet been implemented. You can still fly it though. The cockpit is luxurious.

The Orca is for sale, yes. The main reason no one ever flies it is because it's expensive yet completely useless at this time. It's a passenger ship. Missions and 'trade' involving said passengers will (extremely probably) be coming in the future. Until then, flying an Orca is basically meaningless because you can get a ship that is superior to it in literally every possible respect, the Python, for 10 million more, which is peanuts to earn by the time you can buy the Orca in the first place.

I saw it in a couple stations. I'm almost sure that I saw it in a station in Alioth, and it's very likely that a station in Sol sells it too (both these systems are faction-aligned, though, so you need permits from the Alliance for Alioth and Federation for Sol).

It's supposed to be a passenger transport vessel, so a future patch may introduce passenger transportation quests or tasks. Anywho, it's flyable, has a very luxurious interior and even has 2 medium and 1 large weapon hardpoints. The stats are a bit alike to the Imperial Clipper, but with a different combination of Internal Compartments, one less Large hardpoint, less "practical" maneuverability (both are listed as 2, but the Clipper can be quite nimble in the right hands), less default shields and more armor. The remaining stats are quite close (they even share the same speed).

In a sense, you could use it as an exploration vessel (though with slightly less range than the Clipper, because of the weight. ~26 Ly jump range for the Clipper vs ~20 for the Orca), but be aware: that ship will be even more defenseless than the Clipper (which is indeed currently used as an exploration vessel).

Not sure how its supposed to just transport passengers? Surely you buy the ship, it has modules, you fit what you like to it? Where do the passengers come in?

Shame I don't have enough money. I like the looks of it!

I'll defs buy an Orca, though, just for the looks and interior, and I'll use it as a temporary exploration vessel. Fun over stats, specially if you already have your main ship covered (in my case a Vulture, which will only be replaced by a better fighter; either the FdL or an upcoming ship).

Heck, some people use the Imperial Clipper instead of the cheaper and more versatile Asp just for its engine sound (and the Clipper is faction-locked, while neither the Orca nor the Asp Explorer are).

The Orca is intended to be a luxury transport - there is nothing in the game *yet* that takes advantage of this. As such, it does not do anything that another ship won't do better.

But it's a status symbol (probably because it doesn't work well for anything else) and looks sleek. I own one, and when I've flown it, other commanders have sent messages my way with "oooh, an orca!", asked to see it up close, etc. So if you want to be a celebrity, it's the ship to get. :p

There are some restrictions on modules on the Orca - you can't fit class six shields to it because the class six module-bay is meant to be for passengers. (I'm not sure of the specifics of the restrictions, I've just seen people complaining about having to run under-powered shields in a smaller module-bay because of the module restrictions that exist for gameplay that doesn't exist yet)
