The Original Elite Game?

I used to play this at a friend's place. He had the Atari 400.

I wouldn't say this was "Elite"... it's purely a space combat game, no trading, no open world. Think "Freespace", but in 1979 :)

There were quite a few wireframe space shooting type games back then. I particularly remember "Interdictor Pilot," "Empire" and "Space Rogue" on the C64. While there were similarities between them and Elite, even then Elite stood out due to the scale of the galaxies and the freedom to move around them.

I still have my old C64 up in the attic. I have no idea if it still works. There are probably some of the games I used to play stored along with it too.

I had one on the C64 that came with a headset microphone. If you made noise in the mic the ship would shoot. You were supposed to say "fire" but we would just blow into it and it would work. Anyone remember what this was called?

This was my first on the Dragon/CoCo.

Lest we forget those who kept the faith http://www.oolite.org/download/ , and just incase you need the 'off-line' mode.
BTW for all of those who would love to add their own 'flavour' to ED the Oolite allows you to code and add objects, missions etc. For more information here is the friendliest forum this side of Reiquat :http://aegidian.org/bb/ you'll find some of Drew's early work here also.
