The original Elite rankings

Don't know whether this is the best forum for this, I was a huge fan of the game in the 80's, played it for hours. I can't remember how it happened, but having been ranked as elite with my ship bristling with military lasers, which were the best at the time, I was involved in a huge battle that latested for hours, eventually after the battle was won I was awarded the rank archangel, I can't have been the only one, and perhaps there was even higher rank, does anyone else remember? And i'm dying to know was there a another ranking after? I played for hours after attempting to achieve it.

Archangel wow first time I hear of this maybe some of the '84s here or perhaps "the Man" himself can shed some light on this.
Now I'm curious.

I believe Archangel was a rank given on a special mission which involved destroying a Coriolis that had been taken over by Thargoids. I may be corrected . . . .

It was indeed for that mission.

I don't think it was a rank above "Elite" but it replaced "Commander" with the work Archangel. It was in later versions of the game, dont think it was in the original Beeb version. The CPC version had a number of extra missions also.
