The other SA rodent: Why Planet Zoo needs the Patagonian mara

As of now, the capybara is the single most-requested animal on the meta-wishlist, and rightfully so; not only are they adorable, but they're extremely common in zoos and pair well in mixed exhibits with animals like tapirs, monkeys, and turtles/tortoises. Its close relative and one of my personal favorites, however, has gotten a lot less (but still a good amount of) love--the Patagonian mara.

It's commonly argued that South America is underrepresented in Planet Zoo compared to its sheer biodiversity (and the number of South American animals with high captive presence), but the southern half of the continent, outside of the rainforest, has nothing at all other than the llama (a domestic animal) and the yellow anaconda (an exhibit animal). The Patagonian mara, as a unique-looking animal (deer meets rabbit meets capybara), and one which is also very common in zoos (in fact, with 236 EU institutions holding it, it's more numerous than the capybara) could fit the bill perfectly. Hopefully we see it in a future pack, whether a Latin America retread or a desert pack.

I do think they should come to the game, they are very peculiar among rodents because of the fact they can act like a deer or antelope

Would really like to get them. Seen them free roaming in multiple Zoos and we definitely still need more South American Animals. Also only 2 Rodents so far even though Rodents are one of the most common Animal Groups.
A South American Grassland Pack might be nice (could also include another often requested Animal: the Maned Wolf)

They're not really a priority for me, but I'm always up for more animals. The issue I would have is that they really only fit in a shared exhibit with llamas, or by themselves. It's the same reason I thought the llama was a terrible choice honestly, I don't want animals that don't fit into a variety of sections if they're added on their own. It's a bit awkward to only have two Andean animals, and one of them be domesticated at that.

Would like to see them a ton (both zoos I've visited have maras and no capybaras) (the Audubon Zoo claims they have a capybara but I have yet to see it); absolutely my only reason for not pushing so hard for them is that I think the capybara is slightly more iconic and I'd rather get one South American giant rodent and another unique species rather than two. Fingers crossed for both, though!

In terms of habitat rodents, we still need a porcupine, agouti and the mara is certainly a good pick for the game, to represent the 'grasslands' of South America
