The Pack

Greetings,
"All Players Group– Players in this group will be matched with each other as much as possible to ensure as many human players can meet and play together
A player’s Friend List and Ignore List is used automatically to indicate preferences in match making so that friends will be matched instead of others if a choice exists(though this is a fuzzy system so there are no guarantees)"

So if I want to play and form a group in instance and (on Team speak), I will need to also become their friend, for our own protection.

I think it's more that the likelyness increases or decreases of joining/ being joined depending on friend/ignore status.

e.g.

I'm in an instance that's in the Sol system around earth.
There are 4 instances in the same sector of space.
You warp in and the back end system picks which of 4 instances to put you in.
Because you are on my friends list/I'm on yours then you are put in my instance out of the 4 rather than the others.
If I was on your ignore list then you would be put in any of other 3 instances instead of mine.

There's no guarantee that you'll get in the same instance.
You could just keep leaving and rejoining though till you get into the same instance as your friends.

If you check out the DDF info, as things stand, its going to be very difficult to actually locate your friends in game and then occupy the same instances over multiple jumps due to the groupings, instance sorting, ignore lists etc. Very difficult indeed. The social/co-op aspect of the game really needs a bit more love-in. I would hope that instance sorting will be evolved behind the scenes to account for people's innate desire for social play with pre-defined individuals within the greater sandbox. So that, you know, we aren't required to isolate ourselves in private groups just to play together.

TBH looking at it objectively, this does rather seem to be the consequence of the group/social micro management everyone was baying for to avoid the pre-established over-9000 online terrorists, err, griefers that were going to descend on us all and (ironically enough) ruin the game for everyone irrevocably merely by being a hypothetical threat to fun.
