HI there Commanders, this is my first post to the forums so I hope you find it interesting or useful (If this has been done by another in the past please let me know, I’d hate to step on someone else's toes).
Like many in recent weeks, I have found myself the proud owner of a new Nautilus class fleet carrier named: INV Aisling’s Promise. (I'm a lore nerd, can't help it I'm afraid). I have spent the weeks following that purchasing upgrades to the carrier’s facilities, making sure both it and myself have a decent supply of credits in order to keep the crew happy on an extended voyage and moving all of my ships into its hangar.
Why? Well, I decided to head out to the Xibalba region in the galactic southeast from Sol, some twenty-five thousand light-years away to start mapping the region. The early steps were slow, I would jump, scan each system, then each system in a loop around the carrier before returning for my next jump. It wasn't long before wonder gave way to efficiency and my hours were marked by twenty-minute intervals of a deep klaxon that signified the lockdown of the carrier prior to its next jump - I have watched a lot of youtube during this time.
Arriving close to the crossover between the Sanguineous Rim, Achilles Altar, and Xibalba I was halted by a completely starless sky, the great void between the galactic arms. Search as I might I could not find a way across the inky black ahead of me, then inspiration struck - I could map out the edge of each arm using bookmarks and so I did.
Several thousand light-years behind me I found hope. A bridge across the void, a bridge I now call “The Path of Fear”. As ominous and hyperbolic as the name sounds, it is a name that echoed my concern in crossing the region. Each star led me deeper into this uncharted void, deeper into a region that the Aisling’s Promise may not escape. The space outside of my cockpit became black and devoid of stars. The only guide to my location was the galactic rim and the star at the center of each system. Should any Commanders wish to walk the path of fear as I have there are things you should know.
- There are no stops for fuel that I have found, it is possible. Though I would not bet your carrier on it.
- It is dark, empty, and devoid of life. Crossing this expanse is a long trip that offers little excitement. Including spool up and cooldown timers, this trip will take around four hours.
- It is insurmountable by smaller ships. You will need a carrier to cross this region.
- The total distance of the path is approximately 5500 Light-years. Which totals in at somewhere in the region of 3500-4000 tonnes of Tritium fuel in reserve.
- The final listing on the route below is a single starred system with 4 planets, the second planet has an Icy ring with a Tritium hotspot should you need to refuel.
