The Path to the Tasmanian Devil

Now that we have a stealth temperate pack in the game, the big question comes from the Meta List leader. How do we get the Tasmanian Devil in the game? They wouldn't fit in a rainforest/tropical pack. They wouldn't fit in dry/grasslands ( I don't think anyways)...What kind of pack ideas can we come up with to get our bite-screech-bite friend in?

One rule...no Oceania pack. I mean that's obviously easy but Frontier is getting creative, so we should as well.

Islands would definitely be a good pack, you all are right. Nocturnal would be too still, but I honestly think it would be too close to this pack's theme.

Of course we all know the Tasmanian devil is getting in at some point. The arctic fox was requested heavily for the arctic pack and ended up finding it’s way in the North American pack of all things. Frontier is very aware of how requested the Tasmanian devil is. It definitely gets in.

Well, we can still get a "forest DLC", "endangered species DLC", "islands DLC", and my favourite one: "exploration DLC" (which can include anything)
I do not think we will get an endangered species pack, that's basically what the Conservation pack is.

I do think we will get an 8-16 bird exclusive pack in December that will functionally be an Animals pack, but with more spots because they should be less work as "exhibit animals".

Then we will get a 4 + 1 (hopefully +1) Islands pack in March or April.

  • Tasmanian devil
  • Fossa
  • Aye-aye or sifaka
  • Kiwi
    • Exhibit animal
    • Exhibit bird or bat
It sells itself. Free money for Frontier.

Technically are latest pack twilight refers to crepuscular behavior in animals. These animals tend to be active at dusk and dawn to avoid predators and in heavily residential areas in the case of the skunk, raccoon, and fox avoid humans as well. So I guess a nocturnal pack is always still on the table for a future pack. My guess would be a island pack for the Tasmanian devil but like Markun said there’s still plenty of ways.

Islands, carnivores, marsupials, nocturnal, endangered, forest, black and white could all work

Now that I've heard about the walk-through bat exhibit, I kind of want a walk-though exhibit for a flock of budgies, so I'm hoping for an Oceania pack soon, with or without the Tasmanian Devil.

This is pretty much exactly what I'm thinking right now - it's fairly likely that birds are next, and then we finally get devils in whatever pack they were saving them for in spring (whether an animal pack or a scenery pack, hard to be sure after they mixed it up this time). Of the options, Islands is the most obvious and likely (and goes well with adding popular birds like the Kea or a bird-of-paradise), which means it's probably not the one Frontier's going to do lol.

I think Islands is going to be the most popular suggestion for an upcoming theme in the coming months, aside from aviaries naturally. I could see it being a suitable theme for either spring or summer, so it could potentially work as an animal or scenery pack. I'm not sure which one I expect for next spring (assuming we even get anything after December's presumed animal pack), since they could either keep the new pattern going and do a scenery pack, or revert to the norm and do an animal pack. Honestly flipping the order might be a good idea for a final year, since that way we could wind up seeing animal packs in the summer and winter, allowing for different seasonal themes (deserts and mountains?)

That's a bold prediction based on very little, Bearcat.

I'm thinking December will be whatever theme fits a second bat. If it happens to also work with the devil, then great - Islands would be good, and could include the Rodriguez flying fox, a fairly common-in-captivity bat species.

  • We know they broke the pattern of animal pack, scenery pack, likely for a specific reason.
  • We can infer the next pack will be an animal pack
  • Frontier likely did not put the resources into making walkthrough exhibits with flying animals just to only use it once or twice, given the high amount of requests for aviaries over the past 3 years
  • Animal packs have more animal slots than scenery packs
  • It will likely be the case it is easier to make walkthrough exhibit animals than it is habitat animals
  • Quite a few species of birds can share the exact same model, the scarlet macaw and blue-and-yellow macaw being a prime example
  • This update was centered mostly around improve the experience with current exhibits and making them a bit more fun for the player

It's not certain, but do I feel confident in it ?Yes, I actually do. I won't be salty if we don't get it, and there's another scenery pack, but I will be confused.

Frontier has been knocking off a lot of the animals at the top of the meta wishlist in the past few packs. First the Capybara in the Wetlands Animal Pack, then the Przewalski's Horse and Amur Leopard in the Conservation pack. By that logic, considering the Tasmanian Devil is at the top of the meta wishlist right now, I'd be somewhat surprised if we didn't get it in the winter DLC.

What's really weird with this pack is that neither of the top 3 animals in the meta list made it in, despite all of them fitting in with the theme. I mean, for me I would have preferred the wombat over pretty much anything so I'm personally okay with it, but it's just an odd selection when 3 more viable popular ones could have been made, one of them very close to an animal we got no less (Maned Wolf to Fox).

But anyways, yeah the flip side of that is that they chose less popular animals because there will probably be more extended support in the future. Granted they're probably not going to knock every single one of the current top 10/20 out, but I think - I hope - that we'll get most of them.

When I started this thread it was more of a concern on how not if, we get the TD, because I do think we will. While it would almost surely require a new rig, it wouldn't seem to be more of an effort than I lot of animals already in the game. By that I mean...the sloth, the tree Kangaroo, they may have issues with climbing, though I think they've likely sorted that out to an extent. The Porcupine is going to be a headache to design and animate all the quills; I'm not very tech savvy but I can't imagine it won't be...difficult.

But the Tasmanian Devil, not so much - for that matter, the Maned Wolf, Red River Hog or Emu too. I think we'll see all four of these at some point.
