The Pipe

Today I went on a jaunt towards the Pipe Nebula in my Adder. I was supposed to go all the way to the pipe, but some 280 ly away from inhabited space got interdicted by a couple of NPCs (as I was looking at the galactic map or system map I think). They got some good hits in, took out my shield, and I started to take damage. I managed to evade (eventually), but I was really close to the star and with no shields. Temperature shot up to over 400 as I jumped into super-cruise and then after a short cool-down in to hyperspace. I then limped home on 38% hull for those 280 ly - choosing fastest route not my normal economical. Barely stopping for a few sips of star-juice, and running as soon as I saw a NPC, I made much faster progress home than I did out. I managed to get to an inhabited system and on my way to the dock when another of 'em tried to interdict me. I wasn't having that ,and managed to avoid the interdiction, and got myself back for welcome repairs. The 450k credits of discovery data sold kind of made it worthwhile.

The Pipe will have to wait another day.

Well, I find the fact you get interdicted in systems 500 Ly from core systems kind of ridiculous and irritating. Are those expanses not supposed to be empty of all life and activity? It makes no sense if every third sector in inhabited deep space is "inhabited" by gang of pirates.

Well, if there are FSDs around for centuries, i think there are LOTS of hermits out there. They live peacefuly in their (and surrounding) system, and suddenly a greedy explorer comes to map their home and sell the info to even more greedy corporations and opressive goverments. Its only natural, that they try to avoid it at all cost, innit?

The problem is that it's not really consistent. You can just jump out of supercruise, or jump to the next system and jump back, and the baddies aren't there.

On top of that, if they want to interdict you, you can see them spawned as soon as you arrive in the system. That's a direct tell there will be trouble.
I usually do a scan, and jump out of the system. I rarely suffer submission in interdictions, but it simply disrupts my 'flow'.

I do agree that few hundred LY out, there should not be rogue eagles waiting at the navpoint ;-)

I think we need some kind of 'aliens' or 'evil NPC corp' to serve as proverbial rats in space. Something to shoot at.
