If Earl is the highest rank in the Empire, what is the point of achieving it?

Are there any benefits?


Why go beyond Baron, seems like the clipper is the real reward.

I'm guessing it's because later on you might need it to be able to buy yet another ship not currently imp. to the game, or perhaps you'll need it to be able to get landing permission on a planet owned by the Impire when that is going to be imp.... And the same goes for the last ranks of the Feds....

At a guess, they might revive the Imperial Courier or Imperial Trader from previous games

Some people like t be all they can be, If there is a higher rank possible, then they go for it. It doesn't matter if there are any advantages in doing so. It's just an achievement.

Coming in a future update is the Imperial Throneship, a massive gold-plated, ego-stroking, peasant-stonking mother of a ship, you'll have to reach the rank of Earl just to be able to gaze upon it and bask in its radiance.

Well, hopefully, one day, ranks might actually mean something.

Hopefully the higher ranks will become more meaningful at some point in the future such as providing access to newer ships, specialist outfitting options, or different missions.
