The potential for Elite:Dangerous as a learning tool.

Elite is truly a game, it is not a simulator - that is why it is OK that FDEV has abolished Newton's First Law.

To teach about the universe, Space Engine does a better job.

To teach about rocket science, Kerbal Space Program & Orbiter do a better job.

How about when you get to an area of scientific interest you get a little ping that says "This is the Star Rigel, would you like to know more?" and you get a little audio snippet giving some interesting facts (like the audio tours at art museums).

Pie in the sky thinking, but hey it's worth a shot!

I use the HCS voicepacks and they do that already. I simply ask, for example, "what is a black hole?" as I fly past one and I get told all about them!

I would recommend 'universe sandbox' (available on steam) as a good simulator. You can interact and change constants within the universe as well as explore galaxy collisions and planetary orbits. Messed about with it years ago when it was in a sort of beta stage - though I never got the protoplanetary disc to form planets

I am using it as a learning tool. For when I have to fight Xur and the Kodan Armada.
