Joke aside, it seems rocks and plants are generated slightly above ground then dropped. Once in a while (for rocks at least), they get stuck mid air longer than necessary. In the OP case, the plant prevented the rock to reach the ground^^
It's common in games, I don't exactly know why, I assume it's to prevent dropping through the ground, or weird clipping (or both).
