Not sure whether this is best posted in the 'Lore and Roleplay' forum, or in regular old 'Dangerous Discussion, so I'll post in both, and let the mods sort it out 
What follows are excerpts of the United States Constitution and Declaration of Independence, altered to fit into the ED universe. I'd like to think the constitutional bit is directly from the 'Federal Constitution', as it were. Being as how my birthday is on Constitution Day here in the US, and being as how I connect so fundamentally with it and the Declaration on a philosophical and spiritual level, I felt compelled to do this.
Please don't hate on this. I don't want to get into an argument, but I will if I have to. I wouldn't think this post would stir controversy, but times is crazy, so if it does, try to keep comments civil, and I'll endeavor to do the same.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all sentient beings are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among said Beings, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.
We the Sentient Beings of the Federation, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United Federation of Planets.
FYI, I called the Federation by its Star Trek equivalent because I don't know if the ED universe's Federation has a longer name, and I kind of needed one for the flow of the text. If anyone knows what its full name is (if it has one) your help would be greatly appreciated!
Also, I was thinking of doing the same thing as above with the Federation Bill of Rights, working from the US Bill of Rights, but that'll take a bunch more work, given all the specific numeric details about apportionment of representation and stuff, so I think I'll hold off for now. Perhaps later, given the interest, I'll tackle it.
