Horizons The Punk CMDR .....

Since I highly doubt Frontier will do anything about this guy, I decided to post this here. CMDR .... has now destroyed three of my ships illegally, having cost me about $10M in insurance. This last time was so low-life cowardly that he should be a kill on sight for everybody at all times. Well, unless this behavior is acceptable, which is as follows: I was stationary on the surface near Farseer in the no-fire zone. He attacked and destroyed my Fer-De-Lance while it was parked and I was away from the computer, returning just in time to launch and have him finish the job. Everyone, please kill this cowardly punk every chance you get, since despite what would have to be many criminal reports he still flies around and kills indiscriminately, even unprotected, unmanned ships. I'm happy to fight him, if I can find him, but I don't think his style is to fight anybody who can match him.

This is why you should dismiss your ship or logoff when you are on the surface, especially if you walk away from your computer. Sounds like your own fault to me.

It's hardly his own fault.

I mean, it's not like a tourist walking around in an unsafe area, flashing money and bragging about how expensive all his goodies are . . . no, he was at a station, docked.

Well, I guess that "hero" who finished him off really feels great about himself right now. Got all the attention he wanted.

OP: Ignore him. Hurts him way more than anything else, 'cause he wants to get a rise out of people. Some are like that. Immature.

When you are docked your ship is invulnerable. Feel free to try it. You wont be able to destroy a docked ship no matter what. OP was obviously using his SRV.

And leaving an FDL in the middle of a planet without dismissing it is comparable to leaving a shiny new sports car in the middle of a bad neighborhood for the night. Someone might steal it or vandalize it by the next morning.

I wasn't docked. I was right outside the station. I know this guy would have to have been reported before, and nothing's been done as of yet, evidently. So apparently the way this works is punks like him get to do what they want and I have to log out of the game? Makes little sense, but OK.

Reported for what? PvP? It is a valid game mechanic. He did not do anything against the rules of the game, even if it is cowardly to attack unmanned ships.

What if I'd been out in the SRV? What then? If I'd have dismissed the ship he'd have destroyed it above the surface.

The problem is killing someone is part of the game, no matter how much you disagree with the how and the why.
The only thing that Frontier will react to is cheating and harassment. It sounds like that player is sitting at Farseer killing anyone and everyone therefore it's not harassment as they are targeting everyone not you specifically.

If I wanted I could kill sidewinders who have booted the game up 5 minutes before for the first time. I'd be a colossal "male chicken" but the developers won't do anything about it as combat is part of the game.

FYI in the future dock at the station and launch SRV. Your ship will be invulnerable when docked.

And if you are going to walk away, especially in open, then Log out. Why is that hard?
Or dock at a station so that your ship can be protected by the station.

Oh, OK. I don't know why I was under the impression it was against "something" to attack and destroy clean CMDRs. So in such a case, what do you do when you're out in the SRV?

Open Play = ELITE : Toxic and officially working as intended.

Need to AFK and other CMDRs nearby? Log out to Menu. Always.
Go to a hotspot like Farseer (famous for being ganking grounds since months now) - be prepared for everything.

Since an SRV doesn't show up on Scanners, that might work - but even that is no guarantee. Just log out to Menu.

Alternatively, don't even use Open Play to visit hotspots unless you're looking for exactly that or similar experiences. You have the choice after all.
Solo Mode (or Mobius Group for friendly company) will permit for those AFK phases if you're really tight on time - leaving only the NPCs as potential troublemakers.

OK, well maybe you can help me understand something else. Under Functions there is "Report Crimes Against Me." What are "crimes"?

This is an in-game function, and is, effectively, an automatic "Mayday" beacon. If you come under attack, and you have this enabled, your ship will call for help. However, the level of help you get is reflected (in theory, at least) by the level of authority in the system you are in. Anarchy means no help (the Police are too scared to go there), while higher levels of Authority should mean a quicker response. However, if an attacker is flying a very powerful ship they may well be able to take you out before having to deal with the Authorities.

Crimes are an in-game thing, and basically means that (game wise, at least) if you are clean, and somebody attacks you in clear space, they have committed a crime. If, however, you are taking part in a Conflict Zone you are fair game to any vessel on the opposing side. If you are WANTED you not only have a target painted on your back, the Authority vessels will join in with any attempts to take you out.

So let me ask you guys this. The first time I encountered him a few weeks ago was when I was trying to get mods at McQuinn. Tthe same guy interdicted me twice and destroyed me twice. Is that considered Harassment?

No its not harassment its just someone with bloodlust and a desire to kill

Oh, I know that part. It's just someone above mentioned Frontier frowns on Harassment. I just got back to Deciat and he's still flying around here...taunted me, in fact. I wish I weren't carrying the cargo my son needs for mods or I'd go out and go at it with him, the punk.
