The question is: What and When?

The only thing that will kill the game, is the scaremongering from pessimists. Who claim how bad the game is when they don't get a feature that they want in the game.

No. The only thing that will kill the game is low sales. ED is not a work of love of some indie developer who is doing it in his spare time (like the Evochron games for example), it's something that needs to generate profits for FD.

Sounds like you need to come back in a year or two. Some of us think there is enough content to be going along with for now as new stuff is added. Other people, not. If you are not happy with the level of content, check back later ;)

Check the last financial statement from FD. Sales are good and even the pessimistic outlook is ok.

Those sales do not justify further development, they represent the profits the game generated when it was released. I doubt that the game is still selling well at the moment.

The question is: will continued development boost sales figures enough to make it a good investment?

It's not my words... they are the words of Braben himself.
If you watch the stream at the mark given instead of having it at me, then you wouldn't have bothered posting what you did.

I agree with Braben, I don't want guilds and clans in the game.
That is my personal opinion, and no matter what you say, you won't change that.

But what I wrote above in my previous post was the words of Braben, not mine. I just agree with him.

And to add, not having clans in the game, won't kill it at all. It's about freedom of player movement, and not reducing their fun if they are not part of a clan.

People can still make groups, and clan servers, using the private server option. If they want it in open, then it's only to show their dominance in the galaxy. There is no other reason for it. And this is exactly what Braben is against.

Hopefully once Star Citizen comes about, most of those players will move on to that game, and play their pessimist role there instead of trying to put ED into the ground.

Flappers...

The point of the game is not to get maximum credits. It is not to get the biggest or 'baddest' ship or gear. If you can understand this, then you can start to think about what the point of the game really is.

LOL but the thing is that there is nothing else to do but that. Can you enlighten us about what the game is really about as of right now? We know that the game will have a bigger purpose and the mining and trading will be a part of it. However as of right now, everyone that gets the game only sees that trading and mining and some hunting is all there is to really do. Also, about the exploration part meh, most boring thing there is. People just have to give the game some time and research a bit before getting into it.

Sorry, do you have access to their financials?

The last public report showed very high number of sales

If ED isn't as good as SC when it releases, then I'll move to SC, simple as that; it doesn't feel remotely viable that ED can compete with SC though - obviously, it depends what you want from the game, SC isn't about having a billion stars, but in every other department, they seem destined to score 10/10. I hope it pans out. ED has a time limit on available time to fix everything, 1 year plus may be a pipe dream, too much competition.

The last public report showed very high number of sales

Of other companies' online games. For ED, it showed sales insufficient even to pay Frontier's bills, leading the company to very substantial losses.

Elite: When Dangerous?
Be honest, you either bounty hunt or trade to get rich. Everything else is not viable enough.

I think the better question you should ask yourself is WHY?

Why do you want to get rich? What will you DO with your fortune?

Buy a bigger ship? What will you do with your bigger ship? Try to get rich quicker?

Is there anything you will do with you bigger ship that you can't already do now?

At the risk of starting an A vs B debate, I would use this link as a frame of reference for time vs. features/content. Although I think FDev are maybe on a faster timeline given the release frequency to date:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expansions_of_Eve_Online

Also just to bear in mind, back in 2004 when I started playing Eve it already felt like a fully fleshed game. The expansions certainly added and changed all of it over the years. Hard to compare apples to oranges anyways. :)

What FD could take note of is the communication that CCP offer. Even in that link you can see the yearly schedule for releases, and they normally give good detail on why they are adding something and what it will change & why .. more leaning towards great detail than good. They explain the game mechanics in detail to players and don't keep it all hidden behind vague UI & limited ingame info. It gets players excited to keep playing and come back. If I could actually pilot my ship in Eve, I may have never left lol

I question if FD even have an overarching plan for this. I assume they would but community is told practically nothing so just results in loss of interest, rant posts and general negativity. Newsletters have been very light on content for months now IMO too.

My take is that we will not have much coming through in the near future, that will drastically change the game for the better. It will mainly be adding things that should have been in there from the start. Not being negative but realistic. We need to face the fact that we have the game FD wanted to make, they consider this the full game, all core features included, so I am not expecting much more in post release updates to change this view.

Not really the best example. Eve Online generates funds with the online monthly fee.

What if, I told you, that the kickstarter campaign didn't reach the amount of funds they were hoping for?
The project was "funded" only on paper.

Elite: When Dangerous? When there will be added actual conent. because if I would have to wait for like one year I'd simply do that and not waste my time now with for example trading or mining.

Missions are funny as well. We get for a conda kill like 200k cr for a mission and 70k for a normal wanted one. I don't even engage because time+cost/reward+time is, compared to trading, way too low. :D
So you end up trading. Flying the same route over and over again and guess what. I fell asleep on my keyboard and was finding myself lost in space somewhere near the sun, haha. So I quit at this point due to me beeing too tired.

Question is, when will be (only mentionable content) new stuff added? Smth. like new ships, weapons, systems, clan support? Can we even be able to pay players some credits for doing a job for us? Will we FINALLY get a tractor beam for mining? What can we do in the future and when can we do it? Does anyone know? If yes, please share!

Greetings :)
