I think it's okay as long as we get better storage and have a better way of locating some of the materials. The gathering part only compounds the RNG issue since the materials are also based on RNG. So it's RNG, RNG, then RNG. Ends up being very tiring having to deal with all the RNG. Makes it hard to feel like I did anything for a days worth of game play sometimes and that's frustrating.
 
I don't think the 2.1 Beta really exposed the core problem with The Engineers due to the fact you only required Fish to perform a dice roll. Now you have to work long and hard to get a chance at the casino. Now the correlation between work and potential reward is actually being tested.

I am outraged that I was forced to do something I do not want. Tens , hundreds or thousands of hours of grind with unpredictable results.
This is a mockery , not gameplay. Since the beginning I could only make one improvement Level 3 and several Level 1. It was not fun or exciting.
Also RNG breaks the balance in PvP.
About the magical properties of weapons and do not want to talk. Compared with them the speed limit and fsd trifle. Anyone who graduated from high school , understands this.

Here one more reason why the RNG applied on Engineer update MUST be removed or reworked ASP. Ok for RNG but on simulation, not on using materials, more explain here.
 
well the low level engineer upgrades are for starting players with small ships as you progress through the game, do missions equip your ship you also acquire materials and components to tweak that ship.
your progress with the engineers follows your progress through the game and depending on what you go for introduces you to several playstyles, like gaining rep with a pirate faction, doing missions and such.
of course it makes less sense when you are high rank, one would really have to wipe to see how beautifully it all works together. the fact that there is some randomness also ensures that the eco system is asymmetrical from the get go.

maybe what Elite needs is a wipe.

I don't get it. I fly small ships and yet I am excluded to a large extent from engineers as I don't have the slots to change my loads outs to acquire what is needed. Want an FSD upgrade, then I need to fit for mining. You tried mining in an iEagle? Wan't your weapons upgraded, then you need x,y or z mission drop cargo. My ship has 3,2,1,1 for internals.

Using those internals how to I get the mining mats/mission drops that are needed? How do I run around keeping a hold of items just in case I need them? I can't. I have to plan on what I want and how I am going to get it. I can't just bimble around.

Take a larger multi role ship and you're golden, as long as you don't mind lugging around mission drops.

Sincerely, am still wondering how FRONTIER could work on a craft system with out before implant an inventory system.
 
Well, since the results of engineers in real-life are also random, why not in game :).

On the first try, sure, real-life engineers may luck into something. But their job is then to document and repeat and further improve. So not really....

Yeah - it properly sucks. I spent hours collecting materials and got an all negative outcome from the RNG for a Grade 2 FSD. Not cool.
 
I voted YES ! I asked Felicity to modify my thrusters from grade 2 to grade 3 dirty drive .. and I got some worst specifications than I had, optimal multiplier decreased with 1% :S Its something like in RL when you go to an engineer to tune your car's engine.. usually they do it in 2 steps Ex : step 1 from 136 HP to max 154 HP , you can get maybe 150 HP, not the max 154 HP....after a while you want step 2 witch increase the engine power to max 180 HP.. maybe you will get 178 HP but for sure not 148 , lower than step 1 !!!

Not happy to read this kind of comment. Many time FRONTIER have been alerted during the BETA. Glad to see that it is not the request of a minority.
