The raw material trader has major flaws.

Some things are harder to collect than others, some things are better collected in other ways to others. That's not a problem or an error, its a bit of interesting variation.
If everything fitted neatly into classifications, with uniform availability it would all be so dull, and we might as well only have 4 elements.

I do think that the material traders were a missed opportunity for some fun in the game.
Just imagine a slot machine instead.

Good Job OP, seriously, there's alot of people on these boards that are fine with broken things staying broken.

keep up the work, keep talking about it, and don't give up.

I've been grateful for the Material Traders implementation, warts and all, on at least a few occasions: rolling G5 mods where you have eight of something, thinking you have enough, and you watch the final G5 rolls increment by .005% while the mat count dissipates to red text.

I've finished rolling with what I have, selected the experimental, and then headed to the needed trader for the proverbial bath to trade up something else to complete the mod. I then picture the bug dude from Star Wars (one with pachyderm nose, wings, and a cigar) laughing as I exit the station. Is being trader-ganked a possible concept?

So for the sake of variety, we should have g4 mats treated as g3 except for how hard they are to get and the grade of blueprint they are in, g3 mats treated as g4, and without fail every single category being being largely unrelated in any way to how the materials are used in blueprints? Meaning that in every case, if you have enough raw mats for a g5 roll, but not a g4 roll, you won't be able to trade down for it at anything better than a 6:1 rate of g5 rolls to g4? Is that "interesting variation?"

Just note that with 8 hours gameplay I maximized all the elements from materials with planet prospecting...i dont needed to even trade things...you just need to look on right spots/planets...Some planets have insane number of metalic meteorites spawn rates, ideal for high grade elements...
