Why do a significant number of posters here always capitalise the modes, (SOLO, OPEN), instead of just writing them "normally", (solo, open)?

There is a forum section for 'modes of Elite'.

I will capitalise Open, Solo etc if I am referring to that mode by name, if I am describing the nature of the mode I don't capitalise it. All caps is just shouting.

Probably for the same reason that people talking about Apple Macs write them as MACs, leading to confused people wondering why we were talking about Apple computers and now we're apparently discussing Media Access Control addresses and oh Gods I need to get out more...
