The reason the Emperor lives?

Early on, just before the full release, there was a newsletter confidently stating that the storyline for the game will kick off shortly with the death of the Emperor, and that there would be a power-struggle over the throne. Now, clearly, while we've all heard some mutterings on Galnet, my question is this: why has it not happened yet? More to the point, why hasn't any story of any great significance happened yet; why has all the galnet content amounted to little more than rumour and fluff?

I'm starting to come to the conclusion that a grand imperial civil-war was envisaged, one in which players could influence the destiny of the Imperium by standing behind various interested parties, early on in the release we even discussed which parties we would side with. But nothing happened. Why?

It seems to me that the most likely explanation is that upon release the reputation and dynamic galaxy background simulation was more broken than Frontier thought it was. Indeed, there hasn't really been any major overhauls and bugs are still very common indeed. Is this the reason the Emperor is still alive? Because they can't get the background simulation to work anywhere near as intended? Thoughts?

Its the year 3300, medicine has come on a long way. Also there are lots of posts on Galnet about Senator Patreus. So while no direct news about the emperor the lineage struggle continues.

Medicine has INDEED come a long way. >:3

I think it's because Frontier want the storyline to play out over time and not have everything happen within the first month of release. I doubt Frontier delayed the story due to bugs and instead planned it to run over a long timeline. This is supposed to be a game which lasts years with some people playing continuously and others playing from time to time when the story gets interesting and more content is added.

I definitely think you are on the right track, everything we try to turn systems or start civil wars ends up being bugged. It's very disappointing and disheartening.

Hello mate! Tell me about it!

Exactly this. They wont even come out and tell us the system isn't working right. They make us beat our heads against the flipping systems wall until we demand an answer and then they tell us its bugged... or that we have to beat our heads more against the system flipping wall until we figure out the write bricks in the right order to hit with our heads.

He's not actually alive at the moment. His body is on life support while the conivers figure out a way to come on top. Many boffin spies died to bring us this information...

Don't get it yet?
Because they're is no story.
FD rushed they game because of business model and released empty game.
Same with patches.
All the same will happen with dlc.
Yes..... There is no publisher anymore because of kickstarter.....
But now it worse..... The shareholders...... And those care even less about how good game is our has any bugs.
They need numbers....FD must deliver update ( same as release ) and if it finished our not does not matter.
And that is the reality and the future of this game.

As a shareholder I care quite a lot about how many bugs the game has, and all the above. It's why I've been exasperated by the whole thing.

But I'm trying to be more positive and hope that post 1.2 things start to pick up and they focus on the game and not fire fighting issues. Call me extremely cautiously optimistic - despite my apparent pessimism.

Our Emperor lives, hes just recharging the batteries and preparing for his ongoing reign, oh and his wedding night!
