The Rings npc farm thread - Detailed explain inside:

*No longer available*

Patch 1.1 maked this method out of date. Hope youre had fun with it.

************************
EDITED WITH ADDITIONAL INFO::
************************
First at all, I would like share this with all Cmdr's, since major numbers of players are not know much about this and there is a lot threads like "combat-no profit at all" or "combat is boring": etc. wich its not true.
Not saw similar thread about it so I might be first the one. Its what I do currently do to reach Elite, its good way trust me. ;)
By doing it Im able to make over 1,5 mils per hour at average (can be even 4-5 mils per hour), with kill ratio 100+, in my Python wich is somewhere middle maxed.

For any Bounty Hunters intrested in Combat:

Wanna rise your rank in Combat?
Wanna make some cash in Combat?
Bored with Nav beacons? Or Anaconda Assasin Hunt in USS?
Capital ships events and War zones (Intense) are not yield much profits with that level of risk?
Having problems with finding Top 5?
There is other way... So listen Dear Cmrd's...

This is what I call The Rings npc farm. What is that you may ask. Currently most profitable way of combat. I did try many ways but no one its even close to that. Do not mistake it with resource extraction points farming wich is very similar IMO. The Rings Npc Farm its like title says, Its about killing countless of npc's in order to get decent profits, train ourselvs in combat and become Elite. This is working 100% and its confrimed by me and by many Cmrd's who posted there. Best thing aside nice profit, its that you chose the place where you want to do it, because it can be done literally almost anywhere!

******************The Rings NPC FARM ******************

It seems all Planets Rings, or asteroid belts are filled with npc's.... At some of rings we got "REP" (Resource extration points) but we aint wanna hang around REP... Here is always too much not needed ships like miners and the ships who protect them such as miners guards and sometimes system security. Hopefully for us Bounty Hunters, If we skip REP, and lets see, go 1000km somewhere else (To drop into ring, fly into it below 1000kms at SC), it can be any other place at Ring we visit, we can meet npc as well. There is trick about this. Listen and remember:

We want to look for any System with planets wich have Rings. This can be also done anywhere (Devs,bug?), even in places far from civlization, at all planets with rings and all asteroid belts as game mechanics will generate spawns anywhere at these. But still I recomend to do it in Anarchy as there we not need to worry about shoting anything wich can make bounty upon ourselvs, and there is no security spawns except in REP. I recommend Anarchy systems (global bounty/better profit) wich are close to Empire, Alliance and Fed systems so we can collect our claims without makin too much jumps. It can also done at any independent system (local bounty/bit lower profit than global) we got security there and risk getting bounty on us instead but aleast we aint even need to leave system to get our claims.
Good place to hunt: Komovoy(Anarchy, A3,A4,A5 plantes have rings also there is few asteroid belts as well) its near Codorain(Empire) and Arque(alliance) with dozens of Fed sytems. Very close to Lave cluster.

For every enter from supercruise into Ring or Asteroid belt, game mechanic will chose spawns wich is kinda like lottery... to change spawn patten you need to save/load game (its fastest method to change) or go into supercruise to redrop again (...somewhere else if at rings). There is many variants of spawns with possible to have only pirates spawns and for that we will look for. Either miners, security or pirates can spawn up to 3 in total(outside REP, In REP can be more than this). Sometimes there is 0 spawns. Most of spawns you find are mixed and most common as far I noticed are single pirate spawns(outside REP). But its possible to have pirates only spawn. Or miners. For each one destoryed ship new will spawn at its place. Obviously we look for pirates (2 or 3 at once) spawns only... Once you find such spawn... Take any cargo they loot if you want some Hardcore mode(not recomended, unless youre pro)... before you finish one taget, other one already will start scan you. Note that sometimes its VERY HARD to find decent spawns so be enduring with searching for it. Dont give up if you keep gonna see only Sidewinders or Eagles with low bounty... After even 50 times of changin spawns, u might finnaly get these pairs of Anacondas pop one after another! (have yet to see 3 of them at once, its possible, since ran myself into several pairs already :D)

Recommended ships for hunting
: Any ship that can equip atleast level 4 A Power Distributor is viable. Asp, Clipper, Python, Anaconda and maybe Dropship (not so sure about this one, but I think it may do a job there).
Loadout: Lasers all the way. Pulses, Burst or Beams depends on taste in any configs. Its cuz its really hard sometimes to get decent spawns... Sure you can go with ammo based weapons and weaker ships as well, but when you run out of ammo youre gonna lose many profit/time just because need of reload, while lasers are not limited by ammo. Of course Python and Anaconda are best for doing that due for having many hardpoints and most powerfull Power Distributors we can get. A Class sensors are also nice to have, to get max range of radar.

There is nice video from Derath who recorded how can this be done for 5 mils in litte more than single hour in Python: http://www.twitch.tv/draegnarrr/c/5979308 (Many thanks for video man, +1 for you, hope you dont mind for putting it at first page)

What we encounter in REP's and outside at Rings/Asteroid belts:

*Miners - they can spawn in any ship up to Anacondas but we see them mostly in Types 6,7,9... There is two categories of miners.
Those who will hang around rocks drillin stuff, and those what I call "runners" who always charge thiers FSD soon as they spawn. Sometimes miners can spawn along two guards, such groups of 3 are counted as single spawn.
We not need them. Very rare to them have any bounty. Recommend to change spawn if spot any of them.

*Security - It seems they can spawn in all REP's and outside if system is not Anarchy(in Anarchy they can be finded at REP only, low chance).
They fly in Vipers and Sidewinders mostly and never saw any of them to have any bounty... Not needed. Recommend to change spawn if spot any of them.

*Pirates - if you hanged around nav beacons, USS's, etc. its pretty much same... As soon as they spawns they will come after you if you get into thier range to scan you. "Have any goodies?" "What are you hauling?" Sound similar? Yes, its them! Pirates with bounty! Kill'em all! They always fly towards you so that makes it easier to spot them out of bunch. All of them have bounty so KWS is must have if youre in Anarchy, they fly in all combat ships. Mostly Eagles, up to Anaconda.

***************************
Rewards:
Ship | Reward range
* Sidewinder 250 - 9800
* Eagle 950 - 25000
* Adder 1500 - 25000
* Viper 2200 - 49000 (only once did get that high reward from elite Viper, usualy its around 35000 at max)
* Cobra 3000 - 36000
* Asp 7000 - 65000
* Imperial Clipper 12000 - 120000
* Federal Dropship 12000 - 120000
* Python 18000 - 150000
* Anaconda 18000 - 199000

Note: These ranges of rewards are not 100% accurate as I do not remember lowest/max rewards per ship I did get destroyed so they might bit higher or lower but not for much though, soon goona update with personal records per ship.
Before someone might yell that is not possible to get over 100k from Clipper or Dropship, its possible but its just very rare. Wanted ships wich are have global bounty on them might have, but dont have to, combined bounty for each of 3 fractions... Seems there is some caps around rewards. I think its around 200k, as never got more than 199k at once... while you might get over 100k from single fraction. This need verification.
Example: Elite Anaconda, reward: 30k Federation, 34k Alliance, 100k Empire = 164k cr in total in 3 claims from single Anaconda.

Nonstoping combat. Do it until bored. Come back later for more. Earn millions. Become Elite.

Alrighty, it seems this thread was succesfull more than I was expecting, many Cmdr's there confrimed that it works and posted additional infos and tips. Many thanks for all of them for helping spread this knowledge among rest of Cmdr's. Fly safe and have good hunting. Also statment from FD about this would be nice if this would be be considered as exploit. Would like to know.

Sorry for the silly question, but when you say planetary rings, do you mean planets which have rings around them? (e.g Saturn?)

Confirmed, it works pretty well, the ships that were spawning were very varied in ship as in rank and always one by one, always wanted.

I can confirm I came across this when I afk'd in a RES. I pointed my ship perpendicular to the ring and whacked it on full throttle. When i came back, there were pirates following me (luckily I had no cargo or I'd have had a hefty insurance claim). I noticed every single enemy that turns up is wanted, and as soon as you kill one another pops up. This seems consistent with what you say, my point is it's not necessary to avoid the RES itself, just fly so far away from the asteroids that the miners despawn.

hey I spent all weekend fighting system authority vessels to try to turn a system. It cost me 3 million in repairs, munitions and (mostly) insurance and i have more than a 1.5 million bounty on my head. It was great fun. I didnt make any money, perhaps FD can refund me!!

Just wanna add, that this method also works in any asteroid cluster. If there is no pirate spawn, just reload / reaproach.
I also noticed that in the clusters, there is a chance that always the same type of ship will spwan. I was in a cluster that only spawned pirates in sidewinders wich was kinda dull. After reloading, only cobras with 10k-20k bounty spawned. So if you want hardcore, look for the infinite Anaconda spawn :D. (pays very well)

Is it fair to say this only really works well if you kit out with energy weapons? I'm using ammo-based weapons and although I kill far quicker, it costs more in ammunition and requires frequent trips to stations to reload. I'm using a Viper but I find that in an all-energy loadout, I'm out of power within seconds. What ship/weapon loadout do you use?

This was my method for a while before I took a break to trade rates. However, a faster way to get kills (not money necessarily) is using the Capital ship method that the first 'Elite' guy used. Clip ships near a capital ship and it will finish them off for you, and you get the kill. In the thick of battle you can easily get 3 - 4 kills a minute. Still, the OP method is probably more fun as you have to take out the opponent by yourself.

In terms of getting creds, rare trading is probably more lucrative but more 'grindy' with little or no combat.

yes, that's the way i do it mostly, after a friend recommended it. it works pretty well.

i use 4 small lasers and 2 multis on my ASP. but i try to save multi-ammo for bigger targets.

This was working very well for me last night. Usually about 5 or 6 ships on the radar at all times. But today I haven't had much luck getting anything at all. A lot of sidewinders and a few transport ships will warp in and then immediately warp out. If any pirates would show up it was only one ship at a time and normally a sidewinder or eagle. I've tried jumping to different sections of the rings and logging out and back in but all my instances are pretty much empty now. :(

I did not said its best way to earn creds in game, but in combat ;)

Yesterday I had litte trobules than usual to find good spawns... I guess it depends on one's luck. Had spawns once per 5 or 6 entrys.... wich was mixed with miners... but managed anyway earn about 6 mils and make another 300 kills in 3hr of fight.

Thanks for heads up on that, i try that tommorow. 50k Asps or Pythons only would make even more faster earns. But having variety spawns its always good since you might bump into 2 anacondas at once.:D

Yes. Ammo based weapons they are limiting here since they cannot fire for too long... not mentions with sometimes hard times to find decent spawn place. So lasers all they way. I fly in Python with (3) class 3 fixed pulses and (2) class 2 fixed pulses... It melts anything up to Asp quicker than KWS scan wich is 10sec... Only Anacondas are have so much hull but if you go after any critical module they die fast as well. IMO pulses have best AP rates of all lasers. Bursts and beams do some more dmg, but they aint good at takin out modules cuz of lower AP ratings. They also uses much more power, and class 3 beams weight 18t per each wich is kinda lol. With 5x Pulses you can shot all day long. Very strong against shields, and hits hard on hull just like c2 multis. All lasers works best bellow 1,5km of 3,0km max range.... any more than that makes them bit weak compared to other weapons. With practice, you can keep with any enemy within "deadly" range of lasers.
