When I'm navigating, I regularly fiddle with my filters to look for interesting systems. I've actually managed to find a few undiscovered Neutron stars this way, which I'm fairly chuffed about.
I'm currently slowly heading down the Sagittarius arm as part of the Sagittarius-Carina Mission with the FGE, and, part way between camps 3a and 4a (Thaile HW-V E2-7 and GCRV 6807 respectively, when I came across three white dwarves in close proximity to each other. Wonderful! I thought, and immediately got to scanning down all three systems. When I got back to travelling again, I found a few neutron stars and a few more White Dwarves. Interesting, I thought.
Then I looked ahead...
The screenshot doesn't give it justice, since if you zoom out far enough, you lose the star dots amongst the background, but, basically put, the area between the two camps is littered with stellar remnants. Literally - they're not tightly packed like you can find near some stellar nursery nebulae, but you can usually go two or three jumps and find either a White Dwarf or a Neutron Star. Heck, I've even found a Carbon Star out here. And none of them have been first discovered yet.
Not so much a stellar nursery as a stellar graveyard...
I'm making my way through here, heading as quickly as my explorer senses will let me (I am waaaaaay behind schedule on this mission, and NMS is out in 3 weeks...), so I thought I'd post this here for any other budding explorers who want an area to...explore. Currently 12,200Ly from sol, at coordinates ~ 11150:-1050:4950, but the field extends a long way in several directions from here...
And, yes, the Ruins of Gabriel - none of my other explorers in the FGE seem to have found this area before, so...dibs on the name?
