The sad tale of the compass and the contacts/navigation panel

Know what gets my goat? And I know I don't have a goat, but if I had one it would be gotten.

Two things get my goat, the compass and the navigation panel.

I hate, Hate, HATE the digital compass! I could never acclimate to it! It's so sterile. I know what the numbers mean, but I can't relate to them. It would be nice if we had the option of choosing between an analog or a digital compass like the one below.

Now for the navigation panel. What irks me is that I can't see a vector for both the navigation and the contacts panel. Ok, it shows a sidewinder and the distance. But in what direction? Up, down, left, right? Ugh! It's especially unnerving when exploring. You may see two planetary contacts, one above the other, but they can be on either side of the sun! So you go to the first only to find you have to go more than twice the distance to get to the second, etc. If only they showed the vector, or a 3D representation of how the planets/contacts relate to each other. Sounds a lot like an orrery, huh? But different.

And that's what gets my goat.
