The Sci-Fi Tour.....Literature, Art, Film and TV References in the Game....

One of the things I plan/planned on doing, was taking a tour of all the Sci-Fi locations from my mental collection.
...
Went out to Barnards Star (Hitchhikers)
Went to Altair 4 (though it has a ddifferent name in the sim) (Forbidden Planet)
George Lucas and Ridley Scott Stations, the leathery eggs.........
...
My favorite Sci-Fi artist of all time, is Peter Elson, most known for his paint and brush illustrations for Sci-Fi books and covers. I susspect that the art team at FD have similar influences as I see certain design "styles" on show.......
...
What other references to Sci-Fi have you seen in the sim? I might do a Hollywood Star Tours map.....
...

Any chance of a "RAMA" blowing through a star system for us to chase? :D

I will go visit Rigel, Aldebaran etc from the Lensman series. Have seen several appropriately named stations but no Heinlein reffed ones. Would love to find a "Barsoom" Most confusing was I found a system called "Tellus" which I always believed was an alternate name for Earth/Sol 3.

I really hope there's a Foss Station somewhere in the galaxy..

That looks like this:

I took a trip to Rigel to see what Rigel 7 was like as I believe this was one of the locations referenced quite a lot in StarTrek.

I found there to be only 2 suns and no planets.. I was a little disappointed :(

I shot down an NPC named Bora Horza Gorbuchul. Main character in Iain Bank's excellent Consider Phlebas. It's a nice touch having these names floating around.

I have not noticed it so much recently (been in one system hunting pirates)....but did anyone get an audio memory of the Vogan Captains voice when approacing some landing platforms? Really sounded/sounds like him.............refering to the superior 1981 TV series, of course. :)

Totally agree - I love his work, almost photo-reaslitic. He worked on (or at the very least, inspired) the designs for the Homeworld games, doncha know ?

I keep seeing the "Gurney Slade" system and confusing it with "Gurney Hallek" - although I have also met (and killed) "Leto Atreides" :D He was flying a Cobra, and despite being 'wanted' he didn't put up much of a fight.

Rep'd Tyfy. Shame that more people aren't familiar with that branch of the story, I reckon it was better than the direction the books took.
