General / Off-Topic The Scotland risks to lose pound sterling

FWIW, as a non-Scotch Britisher, I'd like the Union to remain, but suspect it won't.

Scotch is a drink - I thought that most people knew that. ;)

As a people, we're Scottish.

Did I read somewhere that Salmond plans to offer citizenship to almost anyone with Scottish roots?

I think that I also read something implying that the "play for the national team" test would be used - I find that vaguely ridiculous....

If Scotland leaves the UK it will be the Germans subsidising them instead of the English. Who would you prefer to have to go to for your hand outs? I know who I'd choose.

Exclusively for the export if I can allow myself (Without wanting to get involved me)

:D

Ahem.... This is your thread isn't it?

Fwiw I can't see the English ever joining the Euro, but the Scottish probably would (and I suspect they will need to if they can't have the pound).

Voting no, for a lot of reasons, the pettiest of which is that I cannot stand Alex Salmond and do not want to see how much more smug one person can possibly look. :p ;)

I never really got SNPs argument that we don't have a say in our own destiny.

Cameron sounds like he has Scottish Ancestory
Gordon Browns was from Fife
Tony Blair was at least in part educated in Edinburgh
Alex Salmond himself worked for a time at Westiminster.

Half my friends have part of their family down South. About half of my college class are still in London.

I also like the democratic setup down south. Yes the Lords is a bit of buffties waiting room but they regularly prevent governments from implementing badly thought out legislation.

I also really like the separate Monetary Policy that GB set up. Stops the politicians playing politics with interest rates.

This is perhaps a conspiracy of the European Union, to support Scottish partisans of "Yes". With the aim to join the Scottish into the European Union and later, by the force of things, the England, the Ireland and the Wales. I repeat, even if it is my thread, the original aim is not to get involved me in the internal affairs of the United Kingdom

:)

I'd like the currency to be called "The Muckle", with 100 mickles to the muckle.

If the French do manage to provoke the Scots to rebel, will we get a statue in the Clyde of a woman with a deep-fried pizza in one hand, and holding a Cornetto aloft in the other?

Probably not because it would set a dangerous precedent. If Scotland gains independence and E.U. membership shortly afterwards it would encourage other secessionist movements in other states, most notably Catalonia in Spain. I can't see that the Spanish government would be too happy with that happening.

Why do you think that ?

Even if the European Union is not behind this, the history will repeat itself, perhaps, with the Scotland. Think of the Baltic countries, Balkan countries and Ukraine now

Yesterday I watched the movie "Centurion" which speaks of the Roman Empire which has not succeeded to invade the Scotland. Notably the 9th Roman legion that was totally destroyed by the Picts. Awesome !
