Most of us are fed up with missions that involve seeking out USS's, they are time consuming and boring. I hope one day we can buy a USS Scanner, but until then here is a method I use which Skyforger showed me. It doesnt get around the fact you need to check all the USS's out but it makes it a lot easier and saves you hours of real time!
You have a mission to seek and destroy some pirates / whatever, they all involve USS's
1. Go to any one of the systems where pirates are said to be.
2. Stay in Supercruise /FSD whatever.
3. Pul throttle back to stop
4. Sit and Wait for USS to appear next to you, select them as target and press your 'disengage button'
5. They always come to you (within about 300kms) if you sit stopped
6. Check them all and eventually if you are after 7 pirates they will come to you in dribs and drabs (as well as someone offering to change the mission, just ignore him if you want).
7. If there is a port, then fly next to it but stop short of dropping out of frame shift and just sit there at all stop (but still in FSD) Wait as above and they will come to you, now you dont have far to go to pay fines, collect bounty, get repairs etc.
Its not an exploit, its just that the game mechanic spawns the USS's at you moving or not, if you are moving then they are further away and you have to chase them a bit. If you are at stop they appear about 300kms from you so all you have to do is 'target' them and drop out of FSD.
.
It works, try it, its not in the spirit of the game but the USS's are a pain anyway and no fun. I had to find 7 pirates last night, used this method and got them all. The only prob is you still get a load of spilled cargo USS and that annoying Technology Transporter that keeps turning up! I swear I am gonna shoot him down one of these days!
.
Hope this helps you guys who are struggling to find the pirates or whoever.
