General / Off-Topic The Shinkansen Protocol

Tried something new, with some good results.
Caloric fasted for 3 days, then fed, then did heavy fullbody resistance twice over the next 4 days.
Had visible muscle growth, but the drawback was fever and intense exhaustion.

Here's the theory:
Muscle growth is contingent on the rate of protein synthesis. And that is driven by the mTORC1 complex, found on lysosome membranes.

So I increased the number of lysosomes before the training. By fasting till ketosis started, and taking metformin and curcumin. That would also triple the growth hormone levels. Cells also chomp down all their defective organelles, like bad mitochondria. The raw material is held in the lysosomes initially, as a fuel source.
Studies suggest that there is nitrogen loss when doing full caloric fasting, and we don't want that. Go for 500 calories intake, but keep the protein low to stimulate autophagy. That halves the nitro losses. And keep the cardio down to walking.

That caused a spike in the active sites for mTORC to activate, thus massively increasing the speed of protein synthesis. Came off the drugs 24 hours before the fullbody lifting, and took in a hefty protein carb surplus just prior to the start.
Because of the cancers in the family, I am avoiding animal protein sources. using pea protein powder, with a little peanut butter for flavour. Standard dosage is 20 grams protein, double that with plant sources.

It works out to a weekly regimen, 3 days fast/light cardio and 4 days feed with 2 days lifting. I had to sleep for 11 hours to recover on the first day and the heat from the increased metabolism gave me a fever. If you are doing this, you don't need huge amounts of exercise: cut down to 1 or 2 sets to near failure, and just hit the Big Six compounds. Cut and bulk in one week!

FAST, TRAIN

You do realize that muscle growth is very similar to scar tissue development, right?
You literally tear your extrafusal fibres apart and then they heal, increasing their volume in the process.

If you're going to try speeding up the process by reducing lactic acids by chemicals you're going to end up with muscles that grew unevenly are are more prone to further damage later on.
This ought to be a slow and controlled process. Unless you're Christian Bale.

I'm not Batman.
But I am Robin. :p
Had to take a few days off to recover from that intense week.

I'm thinking this might be the wrong forum... I have a bad habit of assuming that everybody knows Physiology. Of course this isn't the case, nor should it be.

I lost about 20 lbs from a plant-based switch earlier this year, but felt I wanted a bit more muscle mass, and functional strength. How to do that when you are over 55 and eating tofu? I had to do some research, work out a protocol. So here we go.

Hm, under old time caveman conditions, it wouldn't have been unusual to run clean out of food, track something big for 3 days while subsisting on whatever berries/grubs you might find, and then clobber, kill, and haul it back loaded over a 2 day period, and then butcher & eat it before it spoiled for another day or 2.
I would propose that this is exactly how we are evolved to function, which is why the biochem works. ( nothing to do with lactic acid, which isn't lysosomes)
It works just fine with peas and beans. No meat/whey needed.

My initial inflammatory reaction may just be because of a lack of adaptation. Maybe it will always happen because the process is exothermic. IDK.

Over the last few weeks or so I've put on about 9 pounds slowly, from lifting, fasting and eating. A good bit of that is fat, I know. Working on it.
But I look thinner according to a visitor today, who hadn't seen me for a few weeks.
Less body fat. More lean mass. More mitochondria. Better functioning enzymes.
It's something I work on, through reading and practical application of theory.

Ran into a guy on the unit today, 250 lbs, obese, 2 years younger than me. Big fat scar down the sternum, had a bypass 19 years ago, and now it's expiring, so he's had another heart attack. He could pass for my father, if my father were really sick. My genetics are not great or anything, but the difference between us isn't genetic.
It is information, and discipline.
He could have been stronger, leaner, fitter and better than me, if only he had known what I did, and had better personal discipline. But now? He's a goner. They can't fix that rejiggered plumbing forever. My heart can outperform his by 3 times at this point, it can come back only by a supreme effort of sacrifice that he'll never ever be willing to make.

I'm putting the stuff down here.
Anybody can read it for free. Anybody can try it, or ask me anything. Or you could go your own way, find what you want to do and follow that.
It's better to do it your preferred way. Copy whatever you like freely from what I write, according to your own approach, or ignore it and do something else.

But please, do develop an approach, and don't end up fat, sick and hopeless.
I'm on your sides, Cmdrs.
