PvP The ship that will never be, some pre-buff/nerf (burf?) Mamba PvP

So, Beta 4 just dropped, which increased the Mamba heat capacitydissipation rate significantly, increased pitch ~10%, reduced speed by 2%, and doubled the distributor drain for boosting.

All in all, it's vastly different ship now, feeling much like a pre-buff FDL in flight model, which isn't a bad thing, in and of itself. However, it's also far less unique and I'm sure it will be just another hull added to the pile of medium also-rans with little to distinguish it, even situationally.

Anyway, without further ado, I present to you the Beyond Chapter 4 Beta 3 Mamba, a ship no one is likely to experience ever again!

I haven't had time to really try the Mamba (with the exception of our little meet the other day), so I don't have enough data to compare it with this changed version. Do the current changes really make it "obsolete"? If so, why compared with the pre-burf version?

I infer the pre-buff version was unique. This new version is a lot like all the other new med sized ships only with a pretty hull. Cookie cutter performance.

Beta 4 dropped today and I've only done the most cursory of tests with it, but the new Mamba is not so much obsolete as simply more conventional. If anything I suspect the new version will be easier to master and see more use than the original incarnation would have, even if they had simply fixed the heat capacity on the latter.

I posted these videos because they are what I had on hand and for posterity. It may also be interesting to compare to the performance and loadout possibilities of the new version. The Beta 3 Mamba was weird and a lot of people couldn't get a handle on it because it didn't fit their preconceptions or piloting styles learned in other ships...but I don't think it was particularly unbalanced, as I think my experiences with the vessel illustrate.

Essentially, yes.

The new version still has it's own flavor, but is much more directly comparable to existing medium combat vessels, and feels closer to an FDL with weird hardpoint placement than to the Mamba I was flying yesterday.

Every alteration made with Beta 4 has made it more like the FDL (it's closer in heat capacity, speed, pitch, and boost performance now). Personally, this disappoints me, because the last thing I wanted was an FDL reskin. I would have taken the stupidly hot running initial incarnation that forced me to stick a thermal vent beam on anything that wasn't boating cannon, than the new version.

Maybe the new ship will grow on me. Still, I can't help but think the Mamba is a squandered opportunity for something really different, without being useless or overpowered.

That ship was a little *** to hit! Think I managed about 2 plasma hits and now need to give my pilot a raise...

I said it once and I'll say it again. The mamba is an overrated meh ship that is just a crappy FDL

I would have loved the Hot Mamba, not sure the lurkewarm one is a ship I need for combat. Besides, Clipper wins, the first Mamba could have been a challenge for Clippers.

I was really excited to outfit a Mamba on live, now I'm torn between going off on an exploration trip in my Corvette, or refurbishing my Clipper for a change of pace, as the way things are going I could just paint Mamba on the side of my FDL and save my CMDR 170 million cr.

Hopefully, I'm just being pessimistic and some subtle, yet profound, difference I haven't experienced yet makes Mamba 2.0 worth while.

Yeah, its hard for Frontier. They pull the short stick either way, can't blame them ...agreed we are early on and flying the thing will show hopefully in which direction Frontier could take the Mamba. Ha ha ha, if you paint "MAMBA" on your FDL, I already eagerly sold mine LOL, I paint "FER DE LANCE" on my mamba.

Cheers Morbad

I really want a nutter ship though, one that takes skill to keep going but if you keep it on that knife edge it rewards you back.

We had exactly this, Mamba 1.0. Heat while on planets was a bit out of proportion IMO, scooping was hot but manageable, combat was OK. Her manoeuvrability should have been that of an energy fighter of old
like say, P-51 vs Me 109. Against the Phantom the fist version needed all the weapon power she could get, not the most accomplished PvPer here mind you. I stopped PvP before engineers was a thing.
Just a thought.

I think so too, if anything I wanted it to be too quick, almost out of control. The pre nerf Mamba I had was fine, 20LY jump, was a bit hot (sort of like a non A module class T-6 hot).

Yeah absolute. Please Frontier keep an eye or two on her please. Perhaps, consider additional tuning. An unique ship for "niche experts" of sorts lol, would be refreshing.
