The Ship Transportation dilemma: A possible Engineer type compromise?

Clearly the community seems split betweem immediate and delayed transportation...

Suggestion: We have delayed transport as the norm. Whenever you like, you can request a ship is transported to your current station:-
  • It's immediately shown in your current station's shipyard.
  • An ETA for it is calculated at something along the lines of game time + [DistanceInLY/JumpRange] minutes.
  • Until that ETA has come and gone you can do nothing with it.

Now, if you want to instant travel the ship, this is something special! It's an emergency! You need your combat ship here right now! I see two alternatives!
  • You need to supply the right materials to the Shipyard to immediately 3D print your ship locally, or what ever the hand wavium is. So akin to a engineer blue print if you will.
  • You use a special "immediate transfer" vouncher that you collect somehow in the game. Maybe restricted to a maximum number? (eg: 5)?


This approach is an attempt to make delayed transport the norm, but instant is there for special (minimal) cases.

This is not intended to be another thread on the discussion of the pros/cons of immediate/delayed transport. Simply the merit of this or a similar compromise.

Sounds like another reason that will force me to spend time in an srv shooting space rocks. That sounds terrible.

How about the following?
Delayed - exactly as you suggest

Instant - will cost credits, instead of RNG rare space rocks, based on ship value and distance traveled
