CQC The Ships of CQC.

Really looking forward to flying the imperial fighter in 1.5.

And to come:

25 Imperial Short Range Fighter (CQC only)

My favourite ship in CQC right now is the Condor (I prefer speed and agility over shields and firepower - much more fun to play) but I like the Imperial Fighter design even more. It's something special and has a unique look to it.

Everyone is - rightfully - excited about the new behemoths that will come with the update - Cutter and the Corvette. But I am just as much looking forward to flying the Imperial Fighter, since I really enjoy CQC and the Empire is my faction of choice.

Can't wait :)

Condor all day for me, everything else just is not maneuverable enough for me. Basically speed trumps everything else, you can't shoot me if you can't catch me. Al though some eagle pilots are surprisingly quick, haven't managed that yet, then again haven't tried it.

I haven't spent much time in anything but the Condor, but I wonder if CQC might benefit from some adjustments in components; the Sidewinder might be more appealing with some longer range hitscan weapons, and the Condor might benefit from a reduction in hitscan range. Basically, most matches are rife with the Condor using hitscan weapons; the nice thing is that the Condor with its default loadout is really close to the meta (adding Reverse Resistant shields is the first move), but it leaves the other two ships unoccupied. The Sidewinder is the worst, as anyone can engage and disengage one without risk; it can't catch you, it can barely avoid projectiles, and putting anything between you and it is pretty much a clean getaway.

Maybe I just need to spend some time in it, and see if I'm missing anything, but even the best players in them don't seem to do very well (I'm not a very good player, but I'd sure like to see these as a threat instead of a roving obstacle).

I wonder what the field would look like if the meta components were distributed to other ships?

IMHO, those are all very good reasons why the small Federal and Imperial fighters will be everything but useless as ship launched fighters in the main game - an argument you can read again and again in the forums, made mostly by people who never tried CQC and only met AI controlled Condors in CZ, that really are useless. Put a good pilot in them, though (instead of the mindless NPCs), and the player in the larger ship with more firepower will have a hard time hitting the fighter at all - if the larger ship doesn't use turrets! In which case turrets speed should decrease with its size and power - a long overdue balance pass for turreted weapons, IMHO.

After the release of Horizons proper today I was finally able to test the Imperial Fighter in CQC. What can I say? It's an absolute joy to fly, even more so than the Condor - which was already awesome fun! The one point more in agility more than makes up for the slightly less speed compared to the Condor, IMHO. The Imp. Fighter has an insanely low turning radius - you can literally "touch the wall" all the time while flying around a 90 degree corner!

I am quite sure this is going to be the ship I will be flying in CQC for the foreseeable future - can't wait to get "ship launched fighters" in the main game! :)

Wow! My game must be broken. For me IF is less agile than 1.4 Condor...
Agility-wise:
Condor 1.4 > Imperial Fighter 1.5 > Condor 1.5 == Eagle 1.4 At least when I played today
