The Solo mode discussion thread.

Hi guys,

I was wondering, since there won't be any offline mode, how does the exploration mechanisms works on the solo online mode ?

We all know that the first player to discover a system will get the most credit of it. Others will get less and less credits.
Is it what's happening in the solo online mode ? Will I compete with others players ?
Or is it a real solo mod where others players won't affect my game ?

I'm a father and I can't play very much in a week. I wanted to go slowly and discover stuff little by little.
I hope I won't be in competition with players that will have a lot of time in front of them for discovery.

Thank you ;)

Unfortunately for you it is the same galaxy to explore for all in both modes. Only difference in Solo Online & Open Online is that you just do not meet any players in Solo.

It seems solo mode is going away, but exactly how many millions of systems will there be again? There should be plenty for you to go after, but you may need long legs to get to them before others.

You needn't worry. I could have played the original Elite from when I bought it until now and not gotten close to visiting half the systems. The scale is mind blowing.

Plus... new stuffs will undoubtedly appear here and there as we go along.

Yup, like it or not, we're all stuck in the same universe together. Now your singleplayer experience can be enriched by people you've never met before and wouldn't ever want to, woohoo!

Thank you for the clear awnser.

It is disapointing to me, I wanted to take it slowly.
You can say "there is plenty of stars for everyone" in fact if I play 2 to 4 hours a week (yep father/kids and so on) I'll always be after someone ;)

I was hopping to play a game at my pace, not being in competition with other.
But I guess I'll still be able to explore, I'll just won't make as much credit of it as I wanted.

Pretty sure the modes we have now will remain as is i.e solo online & multiplayer online

The way I see it is similar to a pve/pvp flag in an MMO but to prevent breaking MP players immersion you cannot interact with them or them you.
You still live in the same world though and both effect systems, trade etc

My understanding was that off-line won't be a thing -- but I'd not heard of solo / online going away. Link, please?

It's completely possible I misunderstood the controversy. I admit to being much more focused on the current state of the beta, rather than whether there would even be an offline game. And so... I may have been mistaken. My apologies if so and if I find a link, it will go here.

Just heading back to the core systems in open play this evening and found system not far from the core where I got 28,000cr for exploring... I don't think the OP has a problem :D

It makes me wonder, anyone knows how the exploration credit reward is working ?

If it is giving 150% credits to the 5 first explorer and 100% for others it is no big deal.
But if it is decreasing, and give about nothing after 5 visits it's sounds unfair to me.

Any information about that ?

Pause Game in Solo Mode - Idea

First: I know this is only a Solution for Players, that want the Offline Mode to Pause the Game because the RL want their attention.

Theoretically it should be possible to build a Pause Feature into the Solo Modus.

When you Pause the Game, the Game stops like in every Pause Feature in Games: the Screen freezes with a "Pause" Message. The Universe in the Background continue, but Pause your Instance. This way you can stop Battles and Mission Counters to do stuff in RL and continue later. And because you are in a Solo Instance it doesn't affect the online Universe or other Players.

Did I oversee anything or should that be possible?

Unfortunately most of the complaints that ive seen are that people say that other players can still affect the universe when they are sleeping or at work.

They want a whole galaxy simulator, but where they are the only person trading, exploring, missioning in the entire galaxy.

A pause button isn't going to fix that.

New Elite version

I have a better idea.

Frontier Dev could release an OFFLINE board game of Elite. Maybe a smaller travel version with magnetic starships that stop the pieces slipping off the metal Galaxy Map. :D

I support this! That woul'd solve part of the problem that is bothering some of the players that want offline mode (me personally). I just can not afford to play for long time uninterrupted and just need pability to pause the game and resume it later!

Right, but that's why I wrote the first Line. It is only a Solution for some Players, a compromise. Some could eventually deal with it, but possible not all, but some are better than no one.

Possible there are other Ideas for other Players too. But after all it needs that the Players are "compromise ready", too many aren't that and want only there Money back... so ED can't be so important for this players, too bad. But there are Players who really want to play it.

+1 on this. Hope this constructive thread won't be locked!
