The space station must have of real damages ?

Another good idea Flavio!
When you say postpone, do you mean shooting the npc's and players off the station as they repair it? :D

I was originally thinking of a mission to counter the mission to transport tools or personnel by disabling the transport ship rather than shooting defenceless workers as firing a weapon near a station is a bad idea on so many levels: apart from all those police vipers, huge bounty on your head for murder being banned from that port which could have been a useful trade run and having to bypass any missions to that system, you may be forced to stay away from that whole factions' sphere of influence (if the crime was in sol, staying in federation space would be a bad idea) so no one in their right mind would attack workers on a station (especially in ironman mode).

Yes - taking it a step further maybe the bar could have live video screens showing inbound ships docking - badly or otherwise. Drinkers in the bar could have bets as to the "most likely to crash" based on their approach to the station.

:D

Now this is a fantastic idea!

I know my friend, I was being saucy. Then again, if it was an 'enemy' system, it would be a way to entice a Viper launch in order to diminish system strength (I could lead the interceptors into an ambush).
Wars are probably going to break out (I hope!). :D

Ah, ok in which case that might be a useful tactic as a last resort. The other thing that it will accomplish is stopping anyone from docking due to all those vipers coming out. :)

I wonder if we can run a competition to see how far we can entice the vipers from their own station before they break off the attack.

Surely ship shields to station shields would take up all the possible impacts and damage would be minimal at best?

You may get boinging on entry to a station if very bad.

If I don't have shields I don't think I'd risk getting that letterbox out of sync!

Maybe the stations could use HUGE ablative plating at the entrance and the station would be closed for maintenance or have two entrances one in service the other under going prog servicing and out of use.

Anyway docking computers will take those risks out or docking beams!

Just had a terryifing image, lots of newbs trying dock at the same time, all in the worst possible ways , enraging traffic Control so much they keep spewing out more and more vipers until the server crash.

Unless a pilot hasn't installed the latest update and therefore his docking computer still calculates distances in feet while the station is sending out instructions in meters :)

Do you like the idea of a ship that has a docking computer still may have to dock manually until its software has been upgraded and then your computer will work so for stations that you may never visit again, spending money on the upgrade is silly but for well travelled routes, it will be useful ?

I dont ever remember actually spinning when docking to match the stations rotation... I Just roughly lined it up and hit max speed.... It usually worked.

Maybe it was different depending on the platform you used. Mine was the spectrum.

Worst bit was when you made it in and through the tunnel only to be boarded by them darn pirates.... :(

It's already been stated (by Michael or Ashley I think) that it will not be possible to destroy stations (and therefore there is no point in them being able to take damage either).

As you say Michael has confirmed that you cant destroy a station.

Although leaving a Cobra sized dent with just your ship ident clearly visible for other to see could be fun :D

Stations taking damage is useful in that you may be offered a mission to help with repairs or your docking is delayed due to maintenance which leaves you vulnerable or could slow down the vipers from exiting which may help you escape or help the pirate finish looting you.

Makes sense and adds to immersion - I guess we are talking about visible damage (persistent perhaps) to the station hull. Scuff marks, rather than physical. Periodically you might see someone in an orange sidewinder fulfilling their asbo mission by respraying the station. B)

I feel that stations should be able to take damage to the point that they become inoperable - but not destroyed - and this should also take a long time of sustained damage to reach that point neighboring systems could react by sending help (Navy).
