The standard beta on July 29. The gamma for the anniversary of Elite ?

The rate at the way FD are going - I'd say yes.

They really seem to have a grip on the situation that's for sure, worried about the future though - FD will need to do well for the expansions!

while we can only speculate but it seems plausible that we will all celebrate 30th anniversary of Elite with the launch of Elite: Dangerous and that is only couple months away, luckily that coincides with my birthday and i already have 3 week vacation booked in late september ;)

If they're planning to launch with anywhere near the features listed in the DDF, no can't see it. Mining, missions, passenger transport, exploration mechanics, groups, comms, etc. etc. - it's a very long way off. So either they are keeping a massive amount of the game completely under wraps, or they won't launch that soon - or they will launch with a much reduced feature set.

I think the latter would be a mistake, as if people can't progress through certain channels at launch, they will take that as not part of the game and move on.

In my experince, Beta is considered feature complete.... game activity wise like mission type, weapons, vehicles etc. And the majority of the Beta phase is spent fixing things under the hood and balancing (which honestly balancing in multiplayer is never ending sadly).

I dont feel like it will be that soon. Theres alot of stuff to be done.... But at the same time, them having a Gamma phase messes it up because twhat is their Gamma phase going to be. More months of 'testing' or is it just the early access to the complete 1st stage of the game that will go for a week...

Don't worry, it's the first one ("big release" in Newsletter). There's good reason for that - stability of core stuff like network and graphics. They seem have done huge job with premium beta 2 release towards that. Therefore they move on next stage.

Hi ,

Gamma ? , I've noticed a lot of people throwing this term around. Have I missed something ? , because even their store makes reference to the final release following the Beta.

https://store.zaonce.net/elite-dangerous-cat/elite-dangerous.html

Not being obtuse or difficult , just concerned Frontier are going to release an unfinished product. Which would be detrimental to the game , and mean I wasted $150.

Thanks :)

Gamma is final release. See it as "backer release". Retail version will be launched month or two later with big ad campaign and PR efforts (same time gamma will already get some additional polish, they will finish manuals, tutorials, etc). FD don't expect to do resets after gamma launch and will consider it a full release, so in all senses, it is first stable release of the game.

By the end of September. Is it plausible now ?

I'd say its almost certain now that this date is in their thinking.

I don't really think that there is anything for anyone to worry about regarding expansions. The wording in the latest newsletter seems to have caused a lot of concern among users so I think that Frontier perhaps could have chosen their words a bit better before publishing the newsletter. As I have said in other posts I am sure that the game will be a great success and one of the best games of the year and will continue to be supported by Frontier with expansions for some considerable period of time.

Cheers , makes sense now. :)

Unless a big show stopper is reveal, it looking likely September will be the month of Elite Dangerous with gamma introduce.

Frontier got a lot of work to do from now and then through, I wouldn't be surprise if we see some sort of delay to later in the year.

Maybe they don't have quite as much work to do to the game as you think. Just because a feature hasn't been revealed to us playing the beta doesn't mean that its currently not in the game in-house. I think there will be quite a few pleasant surprises come July.

Exactly

my prediction is . July 15th onwards Premium beta 3, this will be the build that Beta testers will see on the 29th except with it having all the fixes added.

29th Beta obviously, Beta will run to up to public launch of the gamma and will have most of the final elements added during this time, the launch of the public gamma also marks the 30th anniversary on the Friday 19th September 2014. the game will have one last reset before gamma.

I hope so.
