The Status Quo. What do you think needs to change ?

For me its pretty balanced, done a lot of wing brawls and 1v1s and things seem pretty solid

My question is, what in your opinion needs to change to make open combat better ?

Fix thermal cannons.

It always signals the end of a wing fight when someone turns up in a thermal cannon armed cutter/vette/conda, everyone involved just gives an annoyed sigh and the fight disperses.

yes heat meta is pure cheese, I quit the game for a while because it was so bad

although it does force heat sink considerations instead of the default "whack a skill booster on there"

Pick up the pace of development and the introduction of new gameplay elements. This program has already been "in development" for longer than the entire life-cycle of most video games. I purchased this program over a year ago because supposedly big things were right around the corner. So far it has been less than spectacular and I am getting awfully bored waiting for new gameplay to be introduced.

The buzz is in the CGs for me, always guaranteed a brawl at the goals.

Have to admit that the Thargoid thing is pretty glacial pace wise

Firstly, PVP dedicated area in game. An asset anyone can fly to in game and sign up for a CQC type battle. Different tiers of skill and ship class to keep it fair, and other players could park and spectate using a free cam or on big display screens for a more social experience. Unique rewards for performing well, and even titles for champions in each class. Use default rental ships or bring your own, make accessible for beginners but also give a dedicated location for experienced players to test themselves and their ships.

Missions that task players with hunting down other players. You get your name on the target list through different reasons; accumulating massive bounties, making a faction hostile for various reasons etc. Maybe tie them to other missions. Where you accept a trade mission and "hostile ships may be sent against you" how about that hostile ship is an actual player who recieved an inbox mission to stop you?

Maybe you get a mission saying "A wanted criminal has been spotted en route to (insert tourist destination) as a passenger on the notorious cmdr (insert cmdr name) ship, the (insert ship name and type). Last seen in (location), we need you to ensure that the wanted criminal does not make it to (destination). Leave no witnesses.

Make these shareable missions as well, so a wing of people could team up to hunt down someone who might be in a better ship or of a higher skill level and get paid for it. This will encourage tactics and team work, whilst at the same time giving an added level of risk that NPC ships don't always provide.

AFAIK the organized brawls work very well. Main problem seems to be a people issue rather than a game issue, but same can be said of any game with PvP. The competitiveness tends to generate unwholesome behaviour.

How many times have you been playing a PvP game and someone has informed you about their relations with you mother?

As in "I am sure your mother is a lovely lady."?

Never.

Well aside from mentioned heat cannons, instancing and a developing story that makes it hard to choose who to support. An example would be the recent pirate vs fed cg where everyone soon joined the fed cg because they knew itd reach a higher tier therfore more profit

Peoples' attitudes.

Frontier, get on that one quick!
The beatings shall continue until the morale improves!

Yeah, I hear you. That's when I stop and say "Dad, I'm trying to play a game.. can we talk later?"
