Open Steam library, right-click "Elite Dangerous", select "Play Elite Dangerous Horizons". That works for me, I hope it does for you too.

This works for me, too. The launcher where I could select the version of Elite to start does not update, but manually starting the Horizons launcher through the steam selection allows me to play.

There is only one launcher, but it is started with different command line options.

I got stuck with this too. Eventually someone on Discord rescued me with a suggestion to fire up EDLaunch directly, which worked. Interestingly, Steam has actually forgotten I own Horizons. No right-click option, no DLC, and an option to buy it (again). What on earth's been going on?

is there an update on this? following the suggestion to right click and select Horizons pulls up the launcher but after pressing play, the screen goes black for a second like the game is starting then i'm returned to the desktop and the launcher again. i can start the game directly and have been doing so since the launcher update issues but i'd like to access the game via steam if possible.

That raises the question, why you need a DRM launcher to start another DRM launcher?

i finally got it to work by having steam checking files. i haven't used steam to launch elite in ages but wanted to try it to see if it could get more curve control over my joystick. sadly no.
