The Steam VR loading/pause screen/white floor appears on occasion on my VIve

On a regular basis my game seems to pause for a split second and I see the loading screen/pause screen from Steam VR. The white floor also seems to appear sometime as if the game has lost its connection to the Vive VR head set.
It is very jarring and especially when you are turning etc.

I tried to play with the VR settings and got ED Profiler etc. but nothing seems to stop this...It is putting me off ED like this and I really love ED in VR (No way I am going back to NOT playing it in VR)....

Did a search on this forum but not sure what that screen is called so could not find anyone else having this...

I have a pretty high end system...Alienware Aurora R5 with a NVIDIA 1080 GPU so should be OK to run....7133 Score on VRMark orange room...
I AM running Steam VR BETA, so maybe it's just a Steam VR thing?

Any help would be appreciated...

I experienced the same. I had it more when I launched the game via steam, and only very randomly when I use the FDev launcher directly. Made me only use the FDev launcher and not running steam at all. SteamVR is launched automatically when I start the game from the FDev launcher.

And I have actually no clue what is causing this. And yes, it is very jarring indeed.

It happens too via the FDev launcher, but IMO less than when I launch via Steam.

I have an i7 6700k@4.5 GHz and a GTX 1070 with a stable (=always keeping this speed) overclock of 2050 MHz (max boost is around 2200 Mhz, but as temps rise, it goes down to 2050 MHz).

16 GB DDR4 ram@stock clock 2133 Mhz, SATA3 SSD.

My guess is, the steam VR basic environemt appears during heavy loading. I happens mostly when I switch instances, or when I enter a station.

I would try switching to SteamVR and not the beta. I was on the beta because it had ss options that regular SteamVR did not and I would experience stuff like that. Once SteamVR supported ss I switched back and have not experienced it.

Yeah it tends to happen ocassionally on heavy loading screens. It's a SteamVR issue I believe, because it happens with other games too. You probably may partially remedy this by setting a chaperone profile with everything disabled in OpenVR advanced settings and applying this before playing Elite. It will still happen but it will be invisible.

However - during turning? That's odd. Maybe something else is hogging down your disk drive? Antivirus program, some driver updates? NVidia had a bad habit of hogging the disk for no reason, but I haven't encountered that behaviour lately. So check system for hogs.

It only happens to mine briefly when loading, but never in game tbh.
