You can scoop at the main sequence stars, i.e. OBAFGKM. All others you cannot scoop at. There are several ways to memorise which stars are in the main sequence. The classic would be "oh be a fine girl/guy, kiss me" but there's some others. I believe there's a recent thread in this sub forum.

Also de-select the unscoopables in your galaxy map, that way you can see them coming up.
