Humanity needs everything we can throw into the fray at this grave and perilous time!"

The Constrictor, Galactica entry:

"The Constrictor was originally designed for the Federal navy during the Thargoid war, and was based upon the the Cobra Mk II design. It was an impressive combat ship, extremely fast and manoeuvrable, yet with enough space for a large array of weaponry. With the sudden disappearance of the Thargoids however, the military lost interest in the ship, probably because it was too expensive. The only operational military constrictor to ever fly was the test prototype which is reputed to have been stolen, although the military deny this."

This was my ship of choice in many many FFE playthroughs. Slightly different lore too

The Constrictor is the only ship allegedly designed by organised crime. It seems that the mysterious Organisation were involved its development. The rumours suggest that the son of a high-ranking member of the fraternity has a hobby of designing ships, and the Organisation decided to get the ship built. The initial reluctance of the Shipyards department of the Vega Line Corporation dissolved after a number of their executives had nasty accidents...

The Constrictor is a nice little ship. Although it is officially a small trader, many people see it more as a medium fighter, due its impressive acceleration and manoeuvrability. There is a fair amount of room for weapons in the ship, still leaving enough space for a small amount of trade. Many Constrictor pilots choose to replace the standard drive with a military drive, and I recommend you listen to their advice.

  • Feds need a combat ship that is as good as the Chief / FDL

What would the ED Cnstrictor look like?

If we’re targeting AX effectiveness …

I”m thinking a medium ship, larger than FAS/etc, essentially a “mini Corvete, with two C3 HPs behind the cockpit (like the huges on the vette) and then two more staggered C3s lined up on centre top side in front of the cockpit to make the most of the 4 “experimental” weapon limit but with scope for decent non AX usage as well. Maybe some C1 hardpoints on the side for flak / TV beams but that might be over-cooking it?

Should have one C6 internal to allow a decent charge rate of bi-weave to be fixed but balance the hull weight so the shields are not quite as strong as an FDL, though. Then balance the Thruster size vs that hull so it’s speed is somewhere between the FAS and the Corvette but give it the good acceleration and agility per the original lore?

i.e. agile hull tank with decent bi-weaves and great hardpoint placement == perfect AX hunter.

Could argue the Chief already provides this but I way prefer the Core Dynamics / Federal aesthetic.

If it would be like the original, it would be fast and agile, and have exceptionally strong shields (with quick regeneration), not much of a hull tank.

Hmmm … okay, probably not a great AX ship then! Unless we get AX / Anti-Caustic shields …

I just thought I’d take the opportunity for my usual attempt to plug a “sawn-off” Corvette! 😂

I'd love if they released the reputed 'Rhino' (if it indeed exists...). Granted, we don't have any need or gameplay reason to have one, but i love the idea of a large ground based vehicle.

Looks way cooler and has interesting properties. Could easily be OP if not some setback were in the design - easy overheating maybe?

I would pay these hapless pixel pushers for a Constrictor.
Loved this ship in the old game.

2 large 2 medium and 1 energy bomb 2 mil slots Base speed 450 Boost 600, a ship that can engage/disengage at will.

Hm, speaking of constrictors, the ship I really want back from the old Frontier games is the Boa. It had the arrowhead shape of the Anaconda, but was bigger and had better weapon mounts. And it wasn't as slow or ugly as the Panther.

Well, that or the Osprey X, or the Harrier. Or the Merlin, which at least had a cool shape. Or even the Saker Mk 3.
