In our group we have a think tank where we will come up with ideas for Elite Dangerous.
We thought it would be nice to move the think tank over onto the forums to give other players a chance to review our ideas, and come up with ideas of their own.

so here is how it'll work:

you put an idea as a comment below.

if you like another persons idea then give it a rep +1, this turns the comments into a kind of voting system so the Devs can easily see any ideas that gain lots of traction.

make your ideas fit into the current game. So 'landing on Earth-like planets' is a no no because that is not within the current limits of the game.

This is NOT a place to complain about things already in place in the game. We want new ideas.

obviously people can comment on ideas put forward by other players but please do so with a quote so it can be easily tracked back to the original idea.


that's about it. Let's keep things nice and simple. hopefully this will become a place that commanders(and developers) can visit for a little food for thought.

I shall start off proceedings with an idea of my own:

QUESTS FOR THE WEDDING SHIP.

pretty easy one.. systems that spawn a wedding ship ALSO have a chance of resolving USS into 'Debris Fields'.
these debris fields can have a range of salvageable materials INCLUDING a new item called 'Wedding Presents'... and ofc a chance of pirates spawning too
wedding presents can be handed in at the wedding barge for credits, similar to the 'looking for goods' ships.

now we have something to DO with that wedding ship that, at the moment, just flies around announcing how happy everyone is.
 
My idea is to add floating herds of space cows. Milking them isn't easy, so the dairy produce costs a fortune making it a rare item.

Cosmic Cow Lactation "The choice for a Moo generation".

Plus you can fly through the herd with a satisfying series of thuds and moo's and they spin around and bounce off each other.

Anyone who poo poo's this idea is a communist liberal with hairy palms.

i believe we already have space cows...
they are called imperial cutters

I guess you could arrange to have a load of them float around so you could boost through them, although all that mooing would definitely swamp the chat logs.

ok I will start

The ability to auto launch fighters, if you have commanded one to launch, when / if it is destroyed, then your crew should be smart enough to just jump into the second one.

that is an excellent idea and probably easily workable within the game constraints... +1 rep to you!
 
For Crew:

Level after Elite where NPCs can become Wingmen. (Wingman level). With the NPC wingmen using your own ships.
Level after Wingmen where NPCs can use other NPCs as crew for fighters. (Lets call It Flight Leader)
Each Flight Leader increases the amount of NPC crew the player can employ.
With a max employable of 3 wing men + 2 fighter pilots each + 2 fighter pilots for the player.
Think thats 11 right ?

Oh yer... We should be able to say buy goods - sell goods - mine rocks - shoot baddies.
Look at the X series for examples :)

Ok seriously then. How about someone sets up a group where the rules are; there are no rules? A basic kill everything that moves group. An alternative to open mode, where lot's of people don't want to be attacked randomly all the time.

A group where all there is, is attack. A group where any player or players can attack any other player or players. Well alright, there would have to be one rule, report crimes turned off.

Anyone could be added to the group, and no one will be removed for misbehaving, because everyone will constantly be misbehaving.

Surely there must be something like this already though?
 
I would love to see a dirty crime filled system with casinos. Another way to burn money and a bad part of town as well.

this is something that may well one day come to Elite, although it does not really fit into the constraints of the game.. at the moment.

as far as I know, there is not a PVP private death server, but this could be because it is poorly advertised rather than none existent.
I believe FDEV would like the main game (that is, open mode) to basically be like this.. but i see what you are going for.

with all the recent talk of a karma system, supposed to monitor and control 'misbehaving' by players. maybe an alternative is something like this.

Although i would put forward that a realm where anything goes would ONLY attract high level players in big ships, meaning that the people who wanted to harass lower level players would STILL do it on open.
plus also, in a realm where anything goes it would be pretty hard to kill anyone because most likely they would just combat log.

but +1 rep anyway because it IS within the constraints of the game and it most certainly IS food for thought

If FD do implement a karma system, then it would deter a lot of so called 'undesirable' player interaction in open mode because of report crimes effecting their 'karma' standing. As far as I am aware combat logging is one of the things that constant abuse of would lead to lower karma standing as well, that would still apply in any play mode.

It wouldn't be the same as harassing lower ranked players, there would be greater justice where similar skilled players who are all up for a fight can battle it out to their hearts content.

But yeah, marketing and awareness of any group such as this would be important. You got to make people want to use it, but if a karma system is introduced then I can see it working.

PS: Might have been a bad idea moving your thread to the suggestions forum, I don't think many people read it, you would get more ideas leaving in dangerous discussion forum.
 
A suggestion I thought of after looking at screenshots for the previous Elite games, For the planetary settlements, could we see the return of domed cities? (Bigger than the domes we've already got) while the planet may be an airless barren rock, it might be nice to see a sample of the greenery to expect on the more lively planets and to add more variety to settlements perhaps? Perhaps even some which we could enter via a SRV only mail slot and drive around the inside? Though that last one might be a long shot.

Do want to have Passenger Ferry Routes as well, but have already made a thread on that.
 
Linking Elite Dangerous to planet coaster so you can transport raw materials and tourists.

I guess your weren't there for the DDF gate.

Would a two person SRV solve some of the complex programming issues that prevent multicrew and SRVs working together?

I do not know or pretend to understand the issues involved and basically, If i see Sandy De Marky saying on a video that its a big programming issue that would require overhauling massively, I am inclined to just trust his word on it.

but there could of course be a way AROUND this issue (maybe not, and probably you guys have already thought this through MANY times).
like a 2 person SRV or the suggested 'scout ships'
that would add a certain playability to multicrewing and exploring.

even if my crew man could mark a system on his galaxy/system map that i would be able to see on my nav computer would be great...

and again, I understand that it is not just as simple as that and that you guys dont want to make it super simple for people to magically teleport themselves across the galaxy and pick up loads of exploration data.

but i would argue this point, saying that finding ANYTHING planetside is a long and often boring task (no offence), if your crew are actively helping you discover new finds, a process that may take all day... or several days.. then they should be rewarded accordingly.
