The Tritium Effect

Have a minor conflict going down in a system within my sphere of interest: a new PMF got dumped into a system a few weeks ago and is now fighting for system control. I moseyed on over last night to check it out and take part in the conflict if needed and woah! the system is suddenly full of fleet carriers! Over a dozen of 'em; it's like a flash mob. They weren't there a few days earlier when I last visited the system. I thought, "This little player group must have some serious clout to get this much carrier support from their friends".

But then I noticed that the fleet carriers weren't concentrated around the station the PMF controlled, nor around the controlling station of the system (owned by an NPC faction), but rather around another station, owned by a different NPC faction. So I checked out that station and... sure enough, that station in question was selling tritium for 4000 cr/t. The other two stations had more normal 40000 to 45000 cr/t prices, since they're owned by different factions.

Most of the carriers have now moved on, as the states have changed, the gold rush is over and the price back up over 40000. Move along, folks, Nothing more to see here.

It's surprising how little effect these gold rushes have. We had a system buying ltd for 1.7m, and despite the hundreds of FC dumping their cargo, we noticed hardly any inf change. It is mooted that the full trade bucket was offset by the crime bucket, but it just seems rather disappointing.

We had the opposite happen not long ago, a fleet of carriers stopped by one of our systems and sold a metric buttload of tritium and spiked our influence dramatically. It was "expansion choice day" and now we are expanding from this random system instead of our choice. That said I don't believe there was a crime bucket to offset anything.
