The UK funds my Elite Upgrade

Its true! (Bear with me).

Almost a month ago, I launched my own little space game (a 3d, tactical capital ship combat game called Darkdawn: Encounters) on Google Play. Much to my astonishment, its been selling well! Specifically, its been selling surprisingly well in the UK. A whopping 25% of my sales have been in the UK, as opposed to 46% US. That's HUGE, given the population difference! Apparently you guys love your space games over there.

Now, I didn't play Elite growing up since the original was a bit before my time; being 4, even Asteroids was quite a challenge back then... Still, as a huge fan of the genre, I was well aware of it's legacy and had gotten my basic pledge in during the Kickstarter (and have since played some Oolite). I've been seeing more and more good stuff come out of the newsletters though and I'd been strongly considering an upgrade to my pledge. With the success of my own little launch, particularly the huge UK turnout, I thought it only fair I send some Pounds back over the pond. So I'm now all in, funded up to the full Digital Download Pack!

I've also looked more into the making of Elite, and I have to say the story of a couple of guys making the game using stolen moments has resonated quite a bit with what I'm trying to do; definitely a great source of inspiration! My hat is off to Mr. Braben.

EDIT: Hey, so some of you were awesome enough to go check out my game and posted about it! That properly belongs in the General Games section, so I made a separate thread here: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8975

Congrats on the launch and upgrade. Always wondered, how did you promote your warez successfully in a marketplace where there are so many many games?

Hi LeoCeballos,

Welcome and congrats on the launch of your game! I just read your post on ouyaforums.com and would like to say that I'll definitely buy the game if it comes to Ouya. Right now I don't have an Android tablet or phone (I'm in the fruit vendor's camp for those devices ;) ).

Hey guys, thanks for the welcome and to those of you who took a look at Darkdawn! Seems like the wrong place to discuss it in depth though so I'll probably make a post in Off-Topic "Other Games" or "Game Development" sometime tonight.

I doubt I'll make founder level. Its definitely tempting to go higher, but things are very tight for the holidays, and those tiers go away on Dec 6, right?

Yes I think the levels disappear on December 6. There will be a new store on December 9. But it will be different sales. We'll see the 9

Welcome mate, great to have you aboard.

I just downloaded your game and I like it. It gives me the space sim fix anywhere and shows great potential. I was pleasantly surprised at the standard, considering it's still in development.

Dr Wookie, that's awesome! Are you serious about being a free science consultant? While I'm definitely going for less "realism" in my game, I do have a few science questions (one in particular!) that affect the setting of the game. Would it be ok to PM you about it?

Crystles, thanks! If you have any questions about it please check out the other thread. Also, if you enjoy it, please rate it and +1 it! (On the other hand, if you hate it, remember....silence is golden.... ;) )

Sorry, I only just saw this... Feel free to pm away :)!

Looks like a decent little game, man! Well done - I might pick that up. :)

Does it have gamepad support? And Track IR?

I joke about the latter. ;)

Edit: It's a mobile game, yes? Is there a version playable on PC?
