The ULTIMATE Orca- no one escapes

Look at this ship.

2nd fastest ship in the game (only slower than the viper), and yet weighing in at 580 tons, so it can masslock almost every ship.
In other words, this Orca could chase down a cobra, asp, t6, t7, eagle, dropship, and clipper, and stop them from running away. Good hardpoint placement and decent maneuverability allow for fixed weapons.
Replace KWS with cargo scanner and exchange some sheild cells for cargo racks and you have an inescapable pirate vessel. 220 shields are second only to the Python, but you won't be going after pythons.
One large and two medium hardpoints is at least on par with the asp- less than the clipper, but the clipper has weaker shields, is slower (further research needs to be done to confirm), and has TERRIBLE hardpoint placement.
So. Orca still considered useless? Or is this an overlooked combat ship- ready to hunt down and kill every last commander cobra in lave space who thinks they can get away because they are smaller?

Dunno, dog fighting in a love boat... I'm trying to vision a shiny banana like that docking at a station, the door flips open and a hairy and smelly pirate is limping out of the thing. It just doesn't look right :(
hahaha. Its only for pirates of class and distinction. Getting robbed by an orca would be quite the experience.

I tested it on the beta build and a light-weight combat version boosts to 441. Yours would probably reach ~430 with all that junk in the trunk, so Cobra is faster(440+) and Clipper is probably more or less even. 1 laser and 2 railguns might make a pretty good pirate vessel, if scooping works... :)

According the Aleksej the mass-locking doesn't work off hull mass though, only off the "disruptive factor" so I'm not sure how the Orca will perform there: source

10 m/s won't be a sufficient advantage to avoid all those hardpoints with that kind of mass, assuming the "disruptive factor" is working as it should.
And if it isn't GET ON IT DEVS!

Mass lock is independent of actual ship mass.

Orca has the same lock value of the Asp, Clipper, Python, T7, T9. So no, 500t means nothing.

Quite the expensive Pirate ship... I imagine scooping wouldn't be very fun in that thing either. I guess we'll see.

How depressing. This needs to be remedied, this can't possibly be intentional.

Why do anything at all if you aren't going to do it with style?

Oh but its totally intentional, since each ship has to have a value set to it. It does not scale with mass at all, only what was imputed.

For clarification, its Anaconda at 24, Dropship at 20, T9 all the way down to Asp at 18, then the small ship values I cannot recall at the moment.

Are you sure? I've never been mass locked by a factor of 24 by an Asp but I've been mass locked by a factor of 32 by a T9.

Gotta spend all that booty on something! Until we can land on planets there is no where to bury the GOLD!
