Read First The Ultimate Thread: Where I Stand (Just for Fun)

Just saw this thread and have read through it at leisure (Ive a day off work today)..it's been an interesting read! I notice that the formally red hot potato which was the Newtonian flight model has largely been satisfied amongst the posters on this thread's minds anyway.

So, to dive in..

Where I Stand

Newtonian Physics:Like the majority, Im also pretty happy with the balance FD have put in place.

PvP/Griefer/PvE: No problem with PvP myself although I'll largely try to stay out of fights if possible. Griefing, why does this even exist? Griefers strike me as the kind of people who take a dump in a bedroom at a party, for the 'lols'. PvE of course thats all good. I am looking forward to how FD develop the co-op side of the game that DB has mentioned..thats going to be really cool I reckon :)

3rd Person View: I enjoy and respect F's vision of this game being all about the pilots POV. And as it is with the Oculus anyway you can see your ship in 3rd person view, just not in flight, and that's in outfitting. You really feel the size and true shape of your ship and that you are standing right beside it. I will be satisfied with the camera drones or whatever they come out with myself.

PC/NPC Division on Radar: Hmm..I like to have to guess and not know straight away in theory, but then its good to know if its a PC or not as PC's are far more dangerous than NPC's at present. Maybe if a scan is required to find out, that would tick both those boxes.

Star Citizen: Yeah I'll get that as well when it comes out (2016-17??), if they implement VR well with it. Same with No Man's Sky.

Best Controller: Im using the ol' x52 Pro and have only used that, so cant give a best.

Monetisation: As far as Im concerned there's nowt wrong with cosmetics. Cockpit and pilot suit frills and perhaps when the ship and station expansion comes out, more stuff you can buy to decorate the cabins of your ship, I'd have no issue with that, more power to it. However I'd like to think that there will always be content like this ingame that is hidden or hard to get and worth seeking out, that you cant buy.

SP/MP/Groups/Ironman: Multiplayer for me, and Im thinking maybe Ironman also now, for the sheer adrenaline rush of surviving sticky situations! :)

Transponder on/off: This is the first Ive heard of this. I take it it's a beacon that tell's others if you are a PC or not? I would like this to be on a toggle, as my tactics change depending on if a ship is npc or pc and I suspect others does to. Pc's are far more dangerous (at the moment) and Im much more wary of the unpredictability of PC's and tend to back off. If I was hunting me I would therefore not want me to know Im a PC and turn my transponder off, if that makes sense.

Alphan/Premium Betan/Standard Betan/Gamman: Alphan

For or against the alphan insurance perk: At the end of the day,its a pretty insignificant perk once you have made a decent bit of wodge. But it will help at the beginning, so yeah..thanks ;)

Career: Well now! I think initially I will go for missions, maybe military career, some bounty hunting and maybe some nefarious assassinations, see how that goes. Maybe then some more tranquil mining and even maybe piloting some high end cruise tour! I used to think exploring will take centre stage but now I think that will come later for me.

Player Crew: Sounds great on paper, and I'd love it if they could pull it off. I have my doubts though. Everyone will want to be the pilot surely? They are going to have to make being stuck down in the engine room bloody interesting! ;)

Ground based personal combat/Ship incursions: As making a good FPS that plays well with enjoyable dynamics is a real challenge there's a worry there for me in that I havent seen anything like this from FD so far. No reason why they cant pull it off of course but it is a genre that can be done well or done badly and/or half baked. Leaving that aside, if they did pull it off I'd love to see them explore zero G combat and the dynamics of this. Sounds really chaotic with debris flying around everywhere from combat rather than resting on the ground..there would be no crouching behind crates! ;)

Alliances: As in guilds, cant say Im a big fan of this.

Drones: Yes I would like to think that there is a high end hard to attain military drone weapon you can get through a mission, which gives you a limited supply of attack drones for example. Camera and repair drones would be pretty cool for exploring. The Thargoids used to release little drone type smaller versions of themselves in combat that usually meant death. So yes Im for.

Player owned stations: Small outpost type stations that could be built would be cool. The Stations should still be automated though.

Anything else: At the moment, nope. Just waiting for the next Beta release to test! :)

Where I Stand

Newtonian Physics: Current setup is fine for this game. I play hardcore CFS's as well (IL2:BoS, RoF, DCS) and this isn't meant to be that. It currently has enough depth and complexity to keep me interested from a control standpoint.

PvP/Griefer/PvE: No one likes griefers, my view of what a griefer is is largely limited to the types who blap new players undocking for the first time right outside the station. Unwanted attacks in the open blue are fair game though as are station/system sieges. I will be primarily a pvper with a little pve tossed in on the side.

3rd Person View: Would be nice for non combat, everyone likes to admire their ship. Perhaps allow a free cam when in the station.

PC/NPC Division on Radar: No real opinion on this tbh.

Star Citizen: I wish them the best of luck, I'm not going to back it though as they have more money than they know what to do with. I'll give it a closer look once they have some sort of game, currently it's just a 3d model viewer.

Best Controller: Joystick all the way, using an X-52 Pro I've had for many years currently.

Monetisation: Cosmetic only.

SP/MP/Groups/Ironman: I am Ironman!

Transponder on/off: No opinion.

Alphan/Premium Betan/Standard Betan/Gamman: Standard Betan.

For or against the alphan insurance perk: Bad idea but I don't really care that much tbh.

Career: Pirate/smuggler/faction warfare. I hope to be the first one with a million credit bounty. Mwahahahaha!:D

Player Crew: Cool, but not highest priority atm.

Ground based personal combat/Ship incursions: See above.

Alliances: It's an MMO, you're supposed to make friends and use some teamwork yes?

Drones: As a weapon system? Sure, why not. The more ways we have to violence each other the better.

Player owned stations: One thing I hated in eve. Little private outposts for yourself and your friends to refit and store stuff at would be fine. But I wouldn't want these to be major structures, more of a space shack than anything else.

Anything else: The Cult of David Braben gets old at times. He's a game developer, not a god. He can and does make mistakes just like everyone else. It is not heresy to point out bugs in the game, balancing issues or even question a few design decisions.

Where I Stand

Newtonian Physics: Against, I like the ED Compromise.

PvP/Griefer/PvE: hate the term griefing, as it's heavily abused by whiny people to complain about legit PvP. If it was actual griefing, I'd say against, but real griefing is very rare. For PvP, Looking forward to PvE.

3rd Person View: Strongly opposed - would be a gamebreaker for me

PC/NPC Division on Radar: I'm for it.

Star Citizen: Backed it with 150$ - lost interest in multiplayer after seeing their mouse controls and third person view. Looking forward to play Sq 42 as a single player WC style space opera though.

Best Controller: I consider M/K superior, but use a HOTAS for immersion

Monetisation: Has to happen. I think we all agree no pay-to-win, so hoping for vanity items.

SP/MP/Groups/Ironman: Kind of pointless with the ability to switch back and forth without any repercussions. I can deal with it, but imho it largely defeats the purpose.

Transponder on/off: on for the most part

Alphan/Premium Betan/Standard Betan/Gamman: Premium Betan

For or against the alphan insurance perk: For

Career: whatever I'm just up to - jack of all trades

Player Crew: yes

Ground based personal combat/Ship incursions: not really interested

Alliances: Against.

Drones: Against.

Player owned stations: for - probably not stations, but maybe outposts

Anything else: Not offhand

Newtonian Physics: ED's way is ok.

PvP/Griefer/PvE: Griefing should be policed in-game. Looking forward to PvP and PvE.

3rd Person View: For. Vanity purposes and it improves my immersion.

PC/NPC Division on Radar: Against.

Star Citizen: Backer. Basic pledge. Hope it succeeds. Doubtful.

Best Controller: Haven't invested money to try.

Monetisation: For. If vanity items alone is enough, good. If not, I'm for P2W to some extent. Largely depends on playerbase/commercial success of base game sales.

SP/MP/Groups/Ironman: Single and Multi. Groups and solo. Yes to Ironman.

Transponder on/off: Both. See above.

Alphan/Premium Betan/Standard Betan/Gamman: Who cares.

For or against the alphan insurance perk: Not against.

Career: Do everything.

Player Crew: Absolutely yes.

Ground based personal combat/Ship incursions: Absolutely yes.

Alliances: Why not.

Drones: To a limited extent.

Player owned stations: Yes. Must be done right, and balanced right.

Anything else: Elite: Dangerous is a terrible name for marketing. Worked in the 80s, but this isn't then.

Where I Stand

Newtonian Physics: It's a game, not a full on simulation. Compromises must be made

PvP/Griefer/PvE: Against griefing (but at the moment I may partake in it because it's far too easy not too - Frontier need to fix it), big on PvP, Looking forward to PvE.

3rd Person View: For. The game is to pretty not to have it (and I want to see what I pay for with skins)

PC/NPC Division on Radar: I'm for it. Despite being anti-griefer. I just want to feel I'm in a game with other people.

Star Citizen: Biggest con in gaming. Not a backer, don't think I will be.

Best Controller: X55 HOTAS, it's what I have. Also pretty much as must with the DK2.

Monetisation: No P2W, happy to throw money for "space hats"

SP/MP/Groups/Ironman: Hopefully multiplayer all group. Might go Ironman...

Transponder on/off: Hate it, and probably end up flying with it off.

Alphan/Premium Betan/Standard Betan/Gamman: Premium Betan.

For or against the alphan insurance perk: Mehh, in the end I see it having little difference.

Career: Explorer, Pirate, Gentleman

Player Crew: Cool but I'll always be pilot.

Ground based personal combat/Ship incursions: Yes.

Alliances: For, but nothing like other games. More like a more formal way of grouping/guilds beyond the friend and group system just now. I.e. I don't want "Titus Ball's group" I want to have it so groups can be named and displayed as such within open (So you know you're being attacked by "The Wolf Pack", or saved by "The Flying Heroes")

Drones: For, especially for mining, salvaging, and exploration. Less so for combat.

Player owned stations: For player owned outposts, and hermit style asteroids. I'd like to have my own private parking space/booty station deep in space.

Anything else: Not against 3rd party tools, but would love to see what Frontier can come up with to tempt me away from using them.

Where I Stand

Newtonian Physics:

Against. Old (okay, middle aged) Tie Fighter pilot here. More fun this way. That, and no time acceleration here at any rate. The Frontier system was more about sliding and gliding, not so fun IMHO. Star glider, rider, slider, wider...

PvP/Griefer/PvE:

We don't need griefing. Nobody needs that. We need every component of a believable universe though. No Trammel and Felucca madness, thank you (separated realms, ordered by play style). No magical laser blocking, based on the nature of the target, or any other such fake nonsense. The focus is however on PvE as I see it, with the possibility for more. Yes, we need possibilities. No, that doesn't mean it is okay to exploit it. I believe this must feel like a simulation first, and like some abstract MMO secondly, that means every playstyle should be represented, that conceivably and naturally might occur. Under a system with no artificial MMO sphere divination, based on analytical overthinking.

3rd Person View:

I'm against that one, based on the hard simulation premise of this game. Things should behave in an expected and concise manner, no fudging or dodging the primary focus of the game, for the sake of divergent implementation of popular features, clearly implanted from expectations first and foremost.

PC/NPC Division on Radar:

I think the separation went in already, due to the organization all human pilots are part of. Following the above logic, we're already separated by virtue. Like it or not. I do not like being very special, more fun to make your own path. But be that as it may. We're separated by birth, and so we stay.

Star Citizen:

Not a backer, not a fan of the revenue model. It has gone slightly over the top, like taking the model into space, while leaving the top at the bottom of the ocean... On the other hand, not a hater either. It is not like you're forced to buy anything. I acknowledge that, and appreciate the support CR gave Elite.

Best Controller:

There is a best controller? Just using a Joystick and a keyboard.

Monetisation:

No pay to win please, and more FACTION stuff, thank you, thank you, thank you. In advance!

SP/MP/Groups/Ironman:

All group. Let's be honest here, Ironman is a temporary stage, unless you're better than me. :D

Transponder on/off:

If defending faction assets, it should be on. If doing anything else, what is this transponder of which you speak...

Alphan/Premium Betan/Standard Betan/Gamman:

Belated Beta. (What we are in now.)

For or against the alphan insurance perk:

Not so much for(e), as after.

Career:

Imperial Courier/Defender of the Realm.

Player Crew:

Those seats were made for sitting! It has to be reasonably engaging though. Unless you're supposed to be a passenger of course. If/when implemented, you need to have a purpose, unless the purpose is to not have a purpose.

Ground based personal combat/Ship incursions:

Bring it on. The more the better. And... make those boarding parties take bribes. :)

Alliances:

Being the creature I am, why not rather have alliances based on affiliation with existing entities, and not some random ad hoc formation of the immediate moment. I mean, even pirate entities must surely exist somewhere out there. You get the taste of extra special player bubble formation, removed from the surroundings this way. Artificial MMO bonding, or critical group support feature? I will not be the judge of this, for obvious reasons.

Drones:

Depends on the purpose. Sending a scout drone into a dangerous area, feels like the natural thing to do, rather than going directly into the dangerous area yourself... :p

Player owned stations:

Not entirely a fan. Must be done with great care, and certainly not in any established areas, where everything was taken like in the last century. We must ask ourselves what the ultimate purpose of ownership should be, and to what end? Monetary domination? Spatial domination? For whom? For what cause? Once again, I want to see some affiliations going on here. You know, like you were part of the surroundings, and working in some kind of established society. Depending on location, granted.

Anything else:

In the final analysis, it is easy to reach the end in a state of paralysis.

Where I Stand

Newtonian Physics: ED already uses Newtonian Physics in the most perfect balance I can think off.

PvP/Griefer/PvE: I am all for PVP piracy. And PvE obviously. I like being afraid in games and I'm never afraid of NPCs.

3rd Person View: Only for screen shots

PC/NPC Division on Radar: I'm for it. Despite being anti-griefer. I just want to feel I'm in a game with other people.

Star Citizen: Meh

Best Controller: Xbox controller all the way.

Monetisation: Has to happen. Gimme all the vanity items.

SP/MP/Groups/Ironman: All group multiplayer but with friends.

Transponder on/off: I want to know when players get into range, I love that "oh [redacted]" moment

Alphan/Premium Betan/Standard Betan/Gamman: PB

For or against the alphan insurance perk: For Alpha and PB (heh)

Career: Combateer

Player Crew: Very yes. Especially as a local "bring someone along for a ride deal using a extra VR headset.

Ground based personal combat/Ship incursions: Meh

Alliances: As in small teams of players? Yes. As in large groups (+16)? no

Drones: Against cept as NPCs

Player owned stations: Against.

Anything else: More Co-Op support and roles

Where I Stand

Newtonian Physics: I like the game balanced version we have, everything is relative anyway

PvP/Griefer/PvE: Against griefing, for PvP, Looking forward to PvE.

3rd Person View: I can live without it, but if we have the option of camera drones for photography, I'd be happy with that

PC/NPC Division on Radar: I like it, I like knowing there is a PC to say Hello to or is on my wing/six

Star Citizen: I have no horse in that race

Best Controller: Each to their own. I like what Voice attack adds, and HOTAS as well.

Monetisation: Vanity items.

SP/MP/Groups/Ironman: Online All, debating Iron man

Transponder on/off: I dont know what is meant by this

Alphan/Premium Betan/Standard Betan/Gamman: Φ-β

For or against the alphan insurance perk: No opinion

Career: Imperial Navy

Player Crew: I'd prefer to have wingmen

Ground based personal combat/Ship incursions: Big Game hunting

Alliances: Unlikely I will be part of one, the few guilds I have been in in MMOs made office politics look like baby town frolics.

Drones: Didn't realise they were being discussed.
Okay for Camera drones, Hyperspace probes and survey probes for exploration, but not Hunter Killers

Player owned stations: Small inflatable ones?

Anything else: Keep Eranin Free!

Would someone mind explaining what the Transponder is exactly please?

Taken from the DDA poll.

A BASIC Scan is what currently happens in the alpha: you target a ship and “look” at it for a few seconds.
An ADVANCED scan would be using a specific hardpoint module.
An IDENT TRANSPONDER service would be available to all Pilot’s Federation members that could be toggled at will. When the service was turned on, resolved contacts on the sensor would immediately show human/AI status.

Bump. Lots of fresh pilots to offer opinions. Remember no discussion on this thread (though the transponder question was definitely valid!)

Where I Stand

Newtonian Physics: Full newtonian with speed limit. Engines compensate but aren't perfect like now. Think Diaspora.

PvP/Griefer/PvE: Braben said you can do anything so go for it. I'm a solo guy.

3rd Person View: Only if you see it through a monitor in the cockpit.

PC/NPC Division on Radar: Solo guy, don't care either way, but if I do play with friends it's nice to know where they are.

Star Citizen: Will be interesting to see how it turns out, at least it will be releasing with all it's content and doesn't have planned dlc like ED. Not a backer, never was a fan of wing commander.

Best Controller: I have an X52 pro for Falcon BMS, DCS, IL2, so I guess my X52. It works well so far.

Monetisation: Put adverts ingame, let people buy credits, it wont harm you. Payed skins is actual game content being locked behind a paywall, I'm against that.

SP/MP/Groups/Ironman: Singleplayer/Private Group.

Transponder on/off: No idea what that even is :).

Alphan/Premium Betan/Standard Betan/Gamman: Premium Betan man.

For or against the alphan insurance perk: For, although I am disappointed that premium beta don't get anything more than standard beta.

The expansion pass (that shouldn't exist) could be bought seperate from beta and it's cheaper that way, it kinda sucks that PB people got suckered.

Career: Explore to find new special trading goods, bounty hunting on the side.

Player Crew: Absolutely yes. I want to be able to just hang out on a friends ship. Just be walking around while he flies about or what not, and be able to take the controls while he walks around. We will see if FD can deliver.

Ground based personal combat/Ship incursions: Ship incursions, it really depends on how it's done. Ground combat I don't care for.

Alliances: This is essentially what groups are for, but Alliances end up being mafias so I'm against.

Drones: Maybe a camera drone. Otherwise no.

Player owned stations: TEMPORARY stations I am for. Permanent player stations I'm against.

Where I Stand

Newtonian Physics: Against, I like it how it is but needs some tweaking.

PvP/Griefer/PvE: What happens in ED happens, I think these things are from past games.

3rd Person View: Nope.

PC/NPC Division on Radar: Nope.

Star Citizen: Nope

Best Controller: X52

Monetisation: Strictly vanity only.

SP/MP/Groups/Ironman: More options the merrier.

Transponder on/off: On or off by choice

Alphan/Premium Betan/Standard Betan/Gamman: SB.

For or against the alphan insurance perk: Don't mind.

Career: Whatever it takes.

Player Crew: Yes please.

Ground based personal combat/Ship incursions: Depends how it works.

Alliances: Why not.

Drones: Depends how they work.

Player owned stations: Why not.

Anything else: FD to come up with the goods in their promises.
