The Umpteenth Community Goals Thread

So is there anything a seasoned player can do in game to get involved in the community and earn decent cash for time spent?

LHS 2094's a fun idea and all, but C2.5mil for top tier? Add a few zero's and I'll get interested as it takes me ten minutes to earn that these days, not a week.

How about doing a Commie Goal involving Platinum and Imp Slave trading? So it's worth the hike to the location and getting stuck in?

Normally I would not be one to complain about this (I've got plenty of other things to complain about), but I just bought my first ever Anaconda with the hopes of doing some real CG hauling, and her maiden trip was to haul 400 tons of apples for a pittance of a wage...

However, I did make it to the top 50% with just one trip :p

Indeed.

I think ComGoals are fabulous for "young" Cmdrs looking for a way to afford that T6 or T7. They don't seem to come in many flavours though.

Congrats on the Conda ;-) Sounds like you'll be needing a week to eat all those toffee apples!

I can print money outside of CGs. I think an event that ramps up the difficulty would be nice for seasoned players. Like smuggling runs into war systems with a high risk of interdictions by Elite NPCs.

Depends if you have one focus: cash. I can no longer talk for early game players as the rewards have changed so much since I was early game but agreed they are not some cash cow, or even close to that. I believe they are what they say they are, community goals. I.e. the aim is for the community with some payout for taking part. Something you can choose to do for fun rather than cash!!
.
I did try some recently in Mobius and found them dull dull dull but if I get a moment then building a bklockade running ship to fly in open might be more interesting. Not for the cash as that is not worth the effort but for fun...

As a seasoned player, you should be aware that the current "top tier" payout is only Cr2.5m because the CG, itself, is only at tier 2 and if it reaches tier 7 the payouts will be closer to Cr20m.
Most seasoned players understand that the philosophy of CGs is the more you put in, the more you get out.

Course, as a seasoned player, you probably turn your nose up at a Cr20m payout too, right?

It's not about "turning your nose up"

20mil is two hours trading, less doing passenger missions. So why balance that against a week shifting fruit and veg with no guarantee of even covering a ship rebuy? It's nonsense for seasoned players. We need CG's that scale up.

I agree, although the rntry bar would need to be higher.

E.g. Deadly, Tycoon or both depending on the CG.

A seasoned player will also be capable of choosing what to do if they wish to optimise profits.
Seasoned players will also be aware that some CGs are capable of generating enormous sums of credits, into the billions, on occasion.
Occasionally, seasoned players will also decide to do stuff just for the fun of it.

As a seasoned player, there seems to be a lot about seasoned players that you aren't familiar with.

I mean, I'm not even playing that long (maybe 80 hours?) and I'm in my asp picking up about 17 to 20m+ doing batches of planet scan / skimmer missions, some of which are offering 4m for one "kill 6 skimmer" mission alone.

My home system is right by the cg location but I'm mainly doing it to see if the hint of thargoid attack becomes a reality. 8 minutes there and back per bounty hunt or tiny profits for hauling, including the long initial flight to the station after warping in seems crazy to me, especially as I can pick up many times the likely top tier payouts for doing an hour or so of skimmer / planet stacking.

They desperately need to offer up non credit rewards to make some thing like this worthwhile, be it decal or weapon or some other thing. Spending 15 minutes with the game minimised a trip seems like the opposite of "fun".

I've been away for 18 months, just back and into a Cutter, so must have missed that one! What was that about then?

Lol. That's what Rez' are for. Trading for less than a hundredth of the credit yield on the hour for some made up obfuscated purpose isn't fun by anyone's definition of normal. Moreover, it's borderline daft. I like the idea of the blockade running though, good shout. Maybe when I've cover a few rebuys grinding profitable trade routes, so I can go off and then have some fun.

Which is a part of my point that maybe isn't as clear as it used to be. Breaking that pattern would be a saving grace to the game. A pattern that only seems to have worsened over the last year or so.

Not the daft ones, no.

I'd love to see some variety in CG's.

Hunting and Hauling are pretty much all we ever get.
Yeah, I do remember a "Sell Exploration Data here" CG from a while ago.

All the CG's have had essentially zero creativity applied to them since the Lugh war.

So now, I just drop one of whatever random junk they want at a CG if I am passing it for a few hundred thousand at some random time in the future (I don't even bother picking it up, just wait till it automatically goes into my account)

Above mentioned a "Sell exploration data" CG, yeah, it existed, but you know what?

It was completely random. The CG was about finding something in a certain area, so you were to go out and scan around there!

Thing is, guess what? that's right, it made zero difference where your data was from. You could turn in data, about anything, from anywhere. Making the entire thing stupid, and seem irrelevant.

And then these Thargoid CG's, It's been said a bunch of times, but, thargoid items shouldn't be in the same CG as stuff you can just buy. That's entireely obvious, because what's also entirely obvious is Frontier have no intention of putting any more granularity into their CG system in the near future. It's entirely binary.

"Did player turn in (THING)"
- Yes - Increase their contribution.

That's it. There is no "What type/grade/level/rarity/distance/value was (THING) that was turned in"
- Use this to modify contribution amount/apply to separate element of CG\

It's just so transparently minimum viable product.

And the worst thing is, they have DONE more interesting ones, even using these bare bones mechanics. They just can't be bothered anymore, even in the most supposedly narrative driven part of the games release, since release.

It's amazing(ly confusing)
