The Universe as a Service

What if...

What if FD offers the Elite: Universe as a service where all the graphics are rendered server side so that client side computers need only stream a video with minimal lag? Other space games can take advantage of Elite tech, and players would be presented with a common interface.

Hmmm...

If Frontier had the capability and money to do that, I'd much prefer they instead used it to host game logic on those servers and get rid of P2P.

these server temrinal idea isn't new, but it is not feasable. The network capacity would horrible be strained and very expensive for FD because streaming all these video data is a load of network data traffic.

in general that concept would help a lot in many games with cheaters as stuff like wallhacks and aimbots wouldn't work anymore (unless someone does an aimbot hooking on graphics). But the effort and price would be high since the service provider would have handle all the hardware for rendering the graphic. Furthermore most people who play also other games have their own proper rigs, those would arguably not see the point to let someone else run the game instead and pay for it over using their own machine.

Or, those with a good system and render their own graphics, while those without have to pay a "rendering fee" to have the video streamed.
