The unseen landing pad logic

Dear ED Stuff & fellow commanders,

I wondered if there is some logic behind the docking numbers within a station (not an outpost)?
What I mean - since I look around each time I dock since the famous landing pad light's sudden invisibility bug,
I was wondering if there is some kind of logic behind those (seemingly random) numbers like:
46 means - like 4th row, 6th path within tthat raw, or is it just randomly number trying to simulate
traffic? If it is, maybe- it's worth a consideration to make such a system? if there is such a system already
at work - could you share the logic behind it?

Thanks in advance.

Yes there is; Simon Brewer explained it here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=103576&page=12&p=1610735#post1610735

"The lights are orientation lights so you can align your ship to the station in a consistent way. If you enter a station with the green on your right and red on your left you will find that the docking pad numbers are arranged front to back, clockwise, starting from below you. For legacy reasons, Pad numbers 1 and 13 were reversed. This is now fixed and will be included in a future update. All other pads follow a consistent numbering convention."

Great guys! Thank you for the info, it bothered me a lot - and since 'random' wouldn't make a lot of sense i'm happy that there is logic there!
Was that info in the ED manual (just curious, I didn't looked into it- maybe it's time to do it)

Yes, thank you 777. I'm not sure whether i'll memorise it or whether the UI is intuitive enough. Regardless, nice to see the logic in it.

OT, Jim Bowen might also know a thing or two.

That picture of Jim brings back memories :) As far as memorizing it, I plugged the landing pad locations for Large and Med pads into voice attack, Makes life a lot easier.

Hm.... Ever since I exclusively use the compass ball which points to your Pad right after passing the Station entrance - I basically ceased looking at the markers alltogether.

I don't care if they're illuminated or bugged out.

Especially in very busy Stations (with 15 Pads being illuminated and traffic everwhere), I learned to love that compass ball :)

Does it matter if it's 15 or 35 pads illuminated, as long as your dock request is granted? You know.. just sayin ;)
