The US and German Government is SUING Facebook and Oculus

Apparently the German and US government is suing Facebook and Oculus due to various things like anti trust and the forced tying of the oculus HMD to facebook accounts.

The Facebook aspect is a thorn in the side of an otherwise excellent headset that supports wireless, standalone and tethered VR.

I have never been a supporter of Facebook, years ago I opened an account as the company I worked for wanted me and a team to develop an application that would allow businesses to manage multiple social accounts. That account has remained active, but locked to everyone other than those few people that made it into my friends list, then as the years went by my family used it to keep in touch. Personally I never post but the family do and some communication via messenger also happens.

with the purchase of oculus by Facebook I did some light research on how they use my data. Two things struck me.
1) Facebook are the most scrutinised company on earth. They cannot do anything without an injunction being raised across multiple countries. So I have many far more intelligent and diligent people looking out for me.
2) The data is 99% used / sold on their platform. There are a few instances years ago when it was shared (not sold) with other corporates but today it appears that it’s just used to enhance targeted adverts / news stories (fake and otherwise) on the FB platforms. As I don’t use the platform this does not affect me. If they start spamming my Oculus home then that would be different.

if we look at the latest two VR releases HP and Oculus, Oculus gets 10/10 state a release date and release on that date with product to buy instores on and off line.HP 2/10 at least they started to communicate around the 2 or 3rd release date fail.

Technically as far as the games I play they all worked day 1 on Oculus, HP is still suffering issues.

The VR community have whole heartedly dismissed the OQ2 and embraced HP?? If FB gets broken up and the business unit owning VR can’t survive that’s a sad day for VR.
