According to above, this is only the last manufacturer in Japan. That still leaves a possible door open for someone else to make them elsewhere.

Good riddance, horrible things. Although I do still have about a dozen tapes (wedding, stuff you can't get on DVD etc.) and a VCR in the cupboard
