The Vive vs Rift 'money where your mouth is' poll - what are you ordering?

Option 1 - Nothing yet. I'm waiting for the first proper comparison reviews to come out, supply to be easy, ED support for the Rift to be clear one way or the other, and/or PC upgrade once those Pascal cards come out.
Option 2 - Both. It's only money, right?
Option 3 - Rift. I've pre-ordered already or am about to. It's lighter, has better audio, and is cheaper. I'm taking a punt on ED support and don't mind waiting for controllers.
Option 4 - Vive. The official ED support, the controllers, and the on-face camera mean the extra money is worth it. My credit card will be in hand next Monday.

I've pre ordered the rift. Was going to cancel it and go for vive but have decided to stick with Oculus. I only play elite and asseto Corsa. I don't think either will support the rift at launch. I do believe though that both will support it eventually. Long term I believe Oculus will have more support. Actually I have no idea which will be better. This whole thing is a gamble. It slightly chaffs me off that fd won't give a definitive yay our nay on Oculus at launch but I'm still going to stick with the rift. And yes I have pondered this issue much since steam announced their pricing. I did contemplate ordering both but I'll resist. I doubt the rift will be hard to sell!

I'll probably get both eventually but officially I have pre-ordered the rift. I won't buy a vive until I've seen some reviews of the release hardware. There has been reviews of the Oculus release hardware, i.e. CV1 and the general consensus was that it was better than vive in terms of comfort and immersion so I'm fairly happy with my decision to pre-order it.

Maybe to wait 6-12 months when issues have been ironed out, reviews have been written and the price will have dropped a bit. There is always a premium paid when adopting tech early.

I'm waiting, but so tempted to buy the Vive. But, then I also want to buy a dedicated gaming PC for it, instead of my iMac. If I can just hold off, I will go with the new graphic cards too.... But, I'm not the most patient man in the world.

I was a total Rift supporter until I tried the Vive. I think for desktop games like Elite the Rift will be fine. The vive adds a new level of interaction with walking around and being able to use your hands.

I'm buying the Rift.

I'm not yet interested in anything related to "out of cockpit" experiences, which IMHO can't be properly done even in a room scale environment (besides stuff like Wii/PS Move mini-games), so I appreciate not to have the "forced" additional burden of paying for the additional controllers now.

I'm also under the belief that Rift SDKs being around since years will provide to me more content in the first period vs. Vive.

I'm aware and considering that those are just assumptions and that I will anyway probably buy a new headset in 1 to 2 years...

But for the reasons above, my first choice will be the Rift.

Where I'm at is pretty simple. If FD announced Rift support, I'd go for the cheaper and more comfortable oculus headset. ED support is the killer feature for me, and so I have only one choice right now. I could stick with the DK2, and while this is a tempting alternative the improved clarity of the vive experience is compelling. Selling the DK2 will make the upgrade cost quite reasonable.

The Rift.

- The Vive might have the controllers in the bundle, but I don't like them. They felt like clubs in my hands. While I couldn't test Oculus' Touch-controllers, they look way more ergonomic.

- Weight and fit is an important topic - and Oculus seems to have the upper hand here.

- The visual quality is supposed to be better. However, I have no direct comparison and I had no issues at all with the HTC Vive. Both HMDs are way superior to the DK2, which was surprisingly bad, imo. (However, this might have been due to the application, which featured dark colors in the DK2 and bright colors in the HTC Vive.) The FoV is a little bit higher in the HTC Vive.

- It IS possible to walk around with the Oculus Rift, especially with a second sensor. I've done it! I really don't know, where the myth of the "missing walk-around-option" is comming from. As far as a I know, the main issue might be that the Touch controllers won't work at a 360° angle. This is, however, all very opaque at the moment and might very well change in the future. Having said this, I'll miss the 'Chaperone' system. Its blue "safety net" is really helpfull when walking around! (Edit: but then this! :) )

- Oculus' inlay can be replaced/washed. Hygiene might be a more important issue than many would expect.

- It is cheaper.

- I prefere the associated games. "EVE Valkyrie", "The Climb",... all very promising. "Job simulator"... not so much. A minor point, though. And, by the way, I have no doubt, that FD will support both HMDs at some point.

I pre-ordered 'The Rift' based on my experiences with the DK1 / 2 & GearVR as well as Oculus's excellent customer support. I would have pre-ordered the Vive as well, and fully intend to buy one, sadly (or not so much) Slaw contacted me a couple of weeks ago and I'm now on the waiting list for his next batch of BF109 rudder pedals - so any Vive purchase will be off the cards for a couple of months at least.

I think I might go for the vive, but its hard to choose! I love playing elite and skyrim with the dk2 and I´m sure cv1 will be an amazing experience, but with the vive I'm able to walk around in the cockpit and thats going to be awesome

Sticking with the preordered Rift as it's marginally the better HMD and it's too early to punt on hand controllers. The Vive's "batons" will look old hat very quickly I think.
Just fingers crossed for ED support butit's only 1 of many experiences I hope to have.

I have a Rift pre-order. I'm remaining open to changing the order to a Vive if post-release impressions push towards it being a better device.

Currently, I've got other games that will be supporting Rift first, if ED never gets support for Rift or it's mediocre that won't push me towards Vive on its own (though I would be pretty disappointed not to get the value from my lifetime pass).

Rift pre-ordered, as I'm primarily a cockpit VR guy. Then I tried the Vive. Crap. Then I watched a bunch of Room Scale videos by the Node guys. Double crap.

I so want Room Scale. I'm planning on getting both, and probably selling one when the Touch comes out. But until then, I'll be doing Room Scale in the Vive.

I just found out the vive is going to be sold in the stores here in Norway, so that makes the choice easy for me, so much less hassle buying it or returning it if something is wrong with the product. Do anybody know if oculus plan on selling the rift in stores too?

Probably gonna go with the Vive...my VR fund "disappeared" during Christmas though *grumbles* and now I might as well save up for both the Vive and a new Pascal card when they arrive. So still a couple of months to go before I enter the new promised (VR) land. :)
