The Voyage Home - A DWE PampRats Spin-Off

Dear fellow PampRats:

Well, the big celebrations are over and we turn our thoughts to ‘The Voyage Home’

It has been such fun flying with you all it would be an honour to continue doing so for this journey. I put forward the following as suggestion only - please feel free to add your thoughts.

The general suggestion has been made (thanks Donkey Hote) that we return via the Stellar Graveyard as many of us missed the opportunity to explore it in any detail. We then take a left-hand, westward, anti-clockwise route, taking in nebulae and other POI as they take our interest, following one of the spiral arms back home.

That is about as much forward planning as there is - and possibly as much as we want to do! The idea, I think, is for a free-form and fluid journey home, evolving as we see fit and as our ships deteriorate.

A couple of principles

(1) That we agree our ultimate aim is to make a safe return to Pallaeni, ships (if not mental stability) in tact, where our epic journey began.
(2) To have as much fun as we have had on the outbound journey!

As we progress waypoints for meetups would be suggested and agreed with CMDRs making there own way (just as we have been doing).

NCC71201's Team Speak channel will be the method of choice for voice communications. This thread for all text communication out of game.

Please reply to the thread to indicate your interest.

As some of us are still at Podar, whilst some of us have returned or stayed at Beagle Point, Donkey Hote has been looking at a possible waypoint to meet up. Thanks Donkey

John 'Soft Landing' Shibregro and I are discussing a trip to the furthest possible system (see Beagle Point Week thread). NB This is only suitable for high range Anacondas with J3 mats. John and I will then catch up with the rest of the squadron.

Very great Simon and of course I'm in.

For commanders who want to join us and require access to my TS server, please pm me to get the details.

Donkeys Suggestions

The Donkey Track

CMDRs, I’ve sketched out a possible route for the journey home. Depending on preference, range etc., there are two ‘documented’ starts to this, from roughly where we are:

The Svenno Crossing is more direct, and probably close to PODAR. It requires longer jumps and perhaps not for the feint hearted. Beagle Crossing is the route Kamzel (Erimus) originally took, and has a max jump req of roughly 34. It’s a bit of a shortcut from Ronceveaux. Another route appears to be the Duckfather path!
Currently I haven’t found any markers for Svenno, but will keep looking.
The Duckfather path is however shown below:
1) CHUA DRYIAE KG-D C29-0

2) BLEAE BRIAE TD-F B39-5

Beagle Crossing:
1) SYNEAYAE ZD-T D3-2

2) PROYOOE LW-E D11-3

WP2, the first collective meetup point, is at:
PRO BROAE CH-G B38-9

Following this, there are some interesting POI, which seem to form natural waypoints sequenced in route as follows:
1) OUMBAF HX-B B27-0

2) DRYIQUAE AA-A H32 (LOW IN PLANE, REACHABLE??)

3) BLEETHUE AA-A H36

4) SCHEAU BYOE AA-A H187

5) PHOI PHYLOEA AA-A H167 (OPTIONAL, TO ROOF OF GALAXY)

Oooh, I have my own Path!

I will soon be creating the 'Way of the Duckfather' for completeness. (Hint : it involves a lot of Bourbon ;))

Will be checking this out and am up for it! :)

Awesome work commander, thanks. Looks like an interesting route, I agree to it. I just want to add that I would prefer if we could make
the detour to the stellar graveyard. I wanted to go there during the journey to beagle point, but couldn't find the time. If the majority of our nice group agrees, fine.
If not, I can live with it also. Then I'd have a reason to set our for a new journey one day :)

Thanks! :)
FYI the path I had from point 5) in the doc to the Stellar graveyard was:
1) PHROEA BLUAE AA-A H19
2) < LONG GAP>
3) Poi? DRYAU CHREA FG-Y G10
4) DRYIO BLI AA-A H214 (MAY BE TOO FAR EAST OF NORTH)
5) SCAULO BA-A F1602 (STELLAR GRAVEYARD)

But the route picking would be better done from the end point in the doc.

This sounds like fun guys, and I'd love to go with you all, but I'm turning "west" after crossing the Abyss and heading out to the Abyssal Plain.

There is another way across near Svenno's Crossing though, the Route 33 crossing which takes you to the Distant Blue planetary nebula:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=238330

That's how I'm crossing now, should be on the other side of the Abyss by the end of tonight!

Count me in.
Was on my way clockwise and am at the moment a bit east from beagle (1.5 kly). But will turn around and meet you at the meetup indicated in donkeys pdf.
Is there a (rough) timeframe already?

Yo Simon! I might be up for this too, at least as far as across the gap. Haven't decided when I'm heading home yet though. Hey maybe we should organise an expedition consisting of just Simon's, since there seems to be several of us!

Hey TracerTom,

Nobody's really talked timelines yet, so it's pretty much open. That first meetup WP at PRO BROAE CH-G B38-9 is 13226LY as the donkey trots, any route to it has deviations so is going to be a few kylies more than that (damn, if only we had a brilliant mathematician on hand to calculate the actual distance!). After that first meetup things get more interesting, nebulae and such, I guess the truth is it's pretty much grind to there.

From my perspective, once I leave BP I want to get this bit out of the way, so perhaps I'll target next Friday 15th (edit: this is a rather silly suggestion ) - this may be completely unrealistic for me and any others, but maybe it's a start and we can collectively work it out as the week progresses.

What do you all think?

Best, CMDR Donkey Hote

Yes, does seem to have been a popular name amongst the generation of parents who produced the pilots of 1984!

Whether we take part on this or not, there are interesting way points in the sagittarius Carina mission :
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=241026

The mission starts this evening. It could be interesting to sign up and travel along the route 33, stage 3 of the expedition :
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=241026&p=3732662&viewfull=1#post3732662

It gives us lots of waypoints, then we can digress when needed in order to go see what everyone suggested.
